Sorry guys, I'm out ...

... of politics, that is.

I'm so disgusted with my country's politics that I just can't. We are going to elect a president this autumn and the two best people we can put up there for consideration are Trump and Biden? Really? Sorry, but I am out.

This doesn't make me any less political as a person. I may continue to write about my passionate views on our individual rights as free persons, but I see this election as a chose between the lessor of two evils.

I grew up very engaged in electoral politics. I participated in mock government programs and even argued my positions in the well of the Massachusetts Senate Chamber. I'm NOT pulling back here out of apathy or indifference, but out of disgust.

I turned 18 in 2013 so my first presidential choice was 2016:
- 2016: Trump v Clinton
- 2020: Trump v Biden
- 2024: Trump v Biden, the sequel

I have friends here from every corner of the political map and I love you all, but I just can't. So, many of you may have noticed that I've already stopped hearting or replying to your political posts. Please don't take this as any kind of repudiation (or support) of one side or the other. I'm just out. 😐

Forget about the two front runners. Why didn't we have any credible candidates (and by that, I mean someone who does not have a dead worm in his brain), emerge on top, during the primaries?

Unfortunately, what you see is what you got, and we still have to make a choice, and the contrast between the candidates cannot be underemphasized.

@Northwest Sorry, as a VERY political 29-year old military woman, I just see two power-seeking old men who should be spending their time fishing and golfing, not trying to run a nation of 330,000 million people.

I am not arguing this point. I'm saying, that we have at least 100 Million adults in the US, that could have attempted a run, including quite a few 29 year olds, though I'm pretty certain active duty military personnel cannot run, and honorably discharged may have some period of time, when they cannot run (depending on rank), but the point is that why didn't anyone else make a credible effort to run?

Yes, this means they need the people to vote for them in the primaries. Primaries participation was abysmal, especially from the youngins. So, you get the old farts making the decisions.

@Northwest Just a point of clarification, 29 year olds cannot run for President of the United States.

@SW-User Yes, you're right. Nevertheless, they can run for other offices (and may be where they should start).

@Northwest Our primary system is broken. It allows only the most extreme of either party to be nominated. We (the People) have allowed our political parties to pass rules defending their duopoly on power. The system needs fundamental structural change.

We (the People) have allowed

That's the point I'm trying to make.

@Northwest Point taken.

Personally I rail against the duopoly represented by our two parties every election cycle, but too many Americans are single-issue voters. They find the party that aligns with their position on the single issue and then poof that party can do no wrong. 😔
@sarabee1995 Biden is hardly the most extreme member of his party.

@LeopoldBloom Sorry. I'm not engaging in discussions regarding the dismal choice before us this year. 😔
