I stood in line for three and a half hours today to vote.

I think the ruling party purposefully set up a small space to create long lines so that people could get discouraged and not vote. Our district voted for a different party so they know they wouldn't get a lot of votes here. It was terrible but we all braved it. Young and old we waited. The line was slow moving but it created a sense of unity. Black and white people laughing because we were united in the experience.

We all care about our country and today I really felt that it was our country, together. It's our home. The last line in our national anthem says "Let us live and fight for freedom, in South Africa our land." This election much like the first democratic election in 1994, is a fight to overthrow an oppressor. It was never about black or white, It's about character. I voted for the party I voted for even though they've said and done some racist things. I did it because they delivered the services they promised. I don't need you to like me I need you to follow through with your promises. The other parties use race as a way to convince people to vote against their own interests. I don't care about race when it comes to service delivery, I care about my quality of life, not my identity. People from the ruling party sabotaged our power and water last weekend by cutting it off to make the party that won our district look bad. Bitch they fixed that shit on the same day despite it being a Saturday. If anything they made me excited to vote for them again.

Don't allow a party to use your race to manipulate you into voting against your interests. Don't base your identity on a physical attribute because that makes you a puppet for sociopaths who don't give a shit about you. All they want is power and money.

Of course they set it up that way. This is how Republicans have won elections pretty much my entire life.
