Illegal Immigrant Botches Bank Robbery After He Doesn’t Know English Translation For ‘Put The Money In The Bag’
Footage reveals Sandusky, Ohio, police apprehending an individual suspected of attempting to rob a local bank using a translator app.
On April 4th, at approximately 11:30 a.m., an attempted robbery unfolded. A concerned individual contacted the authorities, reporting that the suspect was inside the bank, exhibiting suspicious behavior and attempting to bypass the counter.
Bank security footage depicts the suspect brandishing his phone towards the tellers, per law enforcement. The suspect, who didn’t speak English, relied on a translator app to convey messages instructing the tellers to “get the money” and “put the money in the bag.”
A concerned individual contacted the authorities, reporting that the suspect was inside the bank, exhibiting suspicious behavior and attempting to bypass the counter. When the tellers refused to comply with his demands, the suspect departed from the scene.
20-year-old Yeixon Brito-Gonzalez, the accused, hails from Venezuela, and authorities have indicated that he might be residing in the country unlawfully, per FOX8 News.
“We have no means of verifying his legal status,” remarked Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver. “But he lacks any form of identification.”
“I have been in law enforcement for over 20 years and this is the first time I encountered something like this, someone using a translator app to try and rob a bank,” Oliver said. “First time our officers have dealt with it too.”
Sandusky officers located the suspect shortly thereafter. An officer proficient in Spanish proceeded to inform him of his rights and engage in conversation with him.
The officer conveyed that the suspect informed him of his recent job loss and financial strain, as outlined in a police report.
The suspect vehemently denied any attempt to rob the bank, however. Instead he asserted that he had merely requested the bank tellers to place money inside a bag.
Gonzalez is now confronted with charges of attempted robbery, attempted theft, and criminal trespassing, in light of these circumstances.
