Why do Republicans want “Civics” classes to replace “Social Studies” classes in schools?

Republicans hate all things civic-minded after all, it’s not like one of those subjects ought to be more friendly territory for right wingers than the other.

Because it is obvious the vast majority of those going through the US education system haven't the foggiest idea about civics. If a population does not understand the policies, laws and procedures that govern them, and how to make changes to that system, then they are nothing more than victims and servants of the system. I want better for myself and our nation's children.

Don't you?

@SlaveEt Sure. But who’s to say we can’t achieve that by teaching social studies better?

Because their 40 year experiment failed? They've tried it, it didn't work. Time to go back to the policy and curriculum that worked.
