House Republicans Send Election Year Gift to President Biden and Democrat Candidates: Their Proposal to Raise the Retirement Age for Social Security

The Republican Study Committee (RSC), which comprises nearly 80 percent of all House Republicans, called for an increase in the retirement age in its budget proposal released Wednesday.

Attack ads should already be in the can.

SENSIBLE folks realize that adjustments are required in order for THEM to get the social security to which they are entitled. It is a fact that life spans have been increasing. Chicken little screeching will only serve to make the sensible position even more SENSIBLE.

The last time Congress raised the retirement age (to 67 without penalty) for collecting Social Security retirement benefits was in 1983.

The average life expectancy for people born that year was 74.6 (78.7 for women, 71.7 for men).

The life expectancy for people born in 2021 is 76.4 (79.3 for women, 73.5 for men)

Those numbers do not take into the QUALITY of life in that extra 1.8 years, which is often spent in nursing homes.

We need to do a better job in the country of taking care of our elderly, not worse.

The Republican plan to attack Social Security is a BAD IDEA that will do harm to those who will need to rely on those benefits.

Any hypothetical age change would affect people for more 20 years from retirement age. You know that. Stop with the scare tactics. @beckyromero

You don't know that since their plan doesn't specify an age - only that the retirement age should be raised. So stop being disingenuous.

@jackjjackson Beyond a doubt. But it's been some time since that side of the House put forward sensible, rational proposals to ends beyind their short term political advantage. Hence the note of surprise 🙂

It’s fair to say that all sides of the Senate, House, Executive branch haven’t done anything reasonable in a decade or more and it’s only getting worse. Personally I find the media and left driven narrative that Israel is somehow “ bad” as egregious as their border policy as shown in actions even more than in words. You DO availl yourself of some factual news re current events even though it is difficult to find? @SunshineGirl
