House Republicans Send Election Year Gift to President Biden and Democrat Candidates: Their Proposal to Raise the Retirement Age for Social Security

The Republican Study Committee (RSC), which comprises nearly 80 percent of all House Republicans, called for an increase in the retirement age in its budget proposal released Wednesday.

Attack ads should already be in the can.

(yes, I know it needs to be updated to Speaker Mike Johnson)

We should stop giving social security to those who haven’t earned it. Also, build the wall and deport all illegals and the savings recognized by getting rid of the illegals can help keep social security funded and the age where one can collect right where it is. Dems don’t want to deport anyone including criminals, those are votes for their party. They don’t care about right and wrong, they care about votes

🙄

The only people who CAN collect Social Security retirement benefits are those (or their spouses) who DID earn it.

@beckyromero yes. I know how it works. I have two amazing pensions (one over six figures) but didn’t contribute to SSI in the past 20 years… I have my quarters in and get an annual statement. I will be eligible to collect SSI as well even though I haven’t put a penny in in over 20 years. I’ll take it.

You know as well as I do that you only need to have worked 10 years to be eligible for Social Security and that they look back at wages earned over the highest 35 years to determine your eligibility payments.

So stop trying to confuse readers of this post to make it look as though YOU aren't collected something YOU aren't ENTITLED to.
@Bill1372 the illegals do fund social security, many have jobs, and have taxes and social security taken out of their paychecks, yet if they aren't here legally, they can never collect those funds, so illegals are a great contributor to the social security funds.

@independentone

Exactly.

Undocumented immigrants are legally required to pay taxes, including Social Security taxes, but cannot legally receive Social Security benefits.

@Bill1372 is just trying to spread disinformation and trying to deflect what the title of the post is about: Republican Efforts to the Retirement Age for Social Security.

Trumpets and their allies can't win an honest debate about nearly every issue so, just like Trump, they deflect and/or evade.
