Does someone’s political beliefs affect how you view them?

Not necessarily, but it can. A lot of it comes down to how well thought out and consistent the belief tends to be. For example, I am strongly pro-choice. I can understand the thought process and point of view of the average pro-life person. Even though I vehemently disagree with the person, I can usually still respect them.

However, if someone tells me we need to cut taxes on the wealthy to improve the economy I am going to think the person is either uninformed, unintelligent, or purposefully lying.
