Not looking to open a can of worms here but what on earth do you make of todays ICJ ruling ?

Listening to the summing-up made absolutely no sense to me.
The court stopped short of doing anything to either aid the idea of ceasefire or apportion blame directly and order a retreat.

Typical UN -- ineffectiveness on display.

@ChipmunkErnie I know it's not a good idea to imagine the U:N or the I:C:J as some sort of 'fair-play-amongst-all-peoples criminal court system' but if members in both U:N and I:C:J keep creating flowery; non-blame; statements as people die from indiscriminate and collateral damage as a result of an aggressors actions, then the I:C:J is no good either is it.

@Picklebobble2 But is it "indiscriminate" or is it targeted at HAMAS installations and assets which are using civilians as human shields? You want to see indiscriminate, look at the WWII carpet bombings are the napalming of entire villages during the Vietnam conflict, or even Russia's targeting of apartment complexs in Ukraine with no military justification. Israel is being much more restricted than any of those.

@ChipmunkErnie I have to agree completely with your statement. Many of the indiscriminate bombings from the allies were a travesty in my opinion. Look at the Dresden fire bombing and it makes you weep. What was the desired result? There was no justification at least for the Dresden situation. Israel, in my opinion, is handling this properly. These old curmudgeons at the ICJ are out of touch and essentially irrelevant.

The UN is no longer fit for purpose - just like the League Of Nations before it. I'm waiting to see the outcome of the allegations that UNRWA personnel were involved in the Hamas slaughter and hostage-taking in Israel. So Guterres has tasked UNRWA with investigating itself? Nice one, Antonio!
Let's agree to incremental reductions in the genocide, while they continue the same genocide with furious haste.
That's the ruling. It's radical! A shift away from cheering for the genocidal maniac.

@Roundandroundwego I can certainly see that as a good interpretation.

@Picklebobble2 it's how you kill the ecosystem. Biden for president! Trump Trump Trump! Murka is a cadaver walking armed and dangerous!

My thinking is that if this issue came to this court and they issued this "advisement," then there's a very valid reason for it.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Ynotisay I suspect this isn't a statement on the rights and wrongs of it. This is a statement on South Africa's case before the court.
One wonders why South Africa brought the case and why it wasn't enough
Ynotisay · M
@Picklebobble2 Not sure, It was interesting the initial charge came from South Africa. It's self-serving, and lines up with some of the atrocities in the past there, but perhaps the goal was to encourage other countries.

Welcome to international "justice". Not pushing a harsh judgement means they wont be so embarrassed when all parties ignore the result, which is exactly what will happen😷

Kinda left wing interpretation of history
