NYU Professor Suspended After Being Caught on Camera Telling Students Hamas Baby Killings ‘Not True’

"New York University has suspended adjunct faculty member Amin Husain following the release of a video where he denied atrocities committed by Hamas, including rape and beheading, during the Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

In the video, Husain also described New York as “a Zionist city.” The video, publicized by The Free Press, led to the removal of Husain’s profile from the NYU website.

A NYU spokesperson confirmed on Thursday that Husain had been suspended and was not currently teaching any classes at the school. The Free Press article, led by Bari Weiss, was based on a two-minute video of Husain, a Palestinian American activist, speaking at a Dec. 5 “teach-in” organized by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at The New School, located near NYU.

“These kinds of questions try to put you on the defensive,” Husain says in the video. “They try to say, ‘OK well, are you supporting — oh my God, you support rapists and people that behead babies,’ both of which, whatever, we know it’s not true. But the president keeps repeating them.”

However, human rights organizations, the U.S. State Department, and independent news outlets, including The New York Times, have corroborated reports of rape by Hamas in the Oct. 7 attacks. The Israel Defense Forces and ZAKA, Israel’s volunteer emergency-responder network, have also presented evidence of babies being beheaded and brutalized during the attack.

Husain, a leader of Decolonize This Place, a nonprofit that organizes around Palestinian rights, has been the subject of an online petition created by an NYU alumnus. The petition, which calls for his firing for “promoting hate speech,” has garnered over 5,000 signatures.

In the video, Husain also brags about being labeled antisemitic and mentions his profile on Canary Mission, a pro-Israel group that doxxes Palestinian activists. “I have a petition going around, right, because I’m antisemitic,” he boasted. “I won the honors of ‘antisemitic’ multiple times.”

His mistake was calling NYC “A Zionist city”. He crossed many lines and people with that remark. Very likely that remark brought about his suspension.
