When you have the "gift from china" during your presidency - of course your natural numbers will spike out of control.
Note: that gift from china thing I put in there was just sarcasm - I actually meant the deadly China Virus that literally poisoned the entire world.
Thanks, marmee, for underlining Trump YUGEST failure. The numbers show Trump handled Covid far worse than other leaders.
All through Trump's term, our Covid per capita death rate was DOUBLE that of countries like Canada & Germany, resulting in about 550,000 Covid deaths under Trump.
If Trump had handled Covid as well as, say, Justin Trudeau, we'd have had 275,000 FEWER DEATHS! Put another way, Trump's mis-management of Covid cost more deaths than THREE Viet Nam wars!! Three Viet Nams in a SINGLE YEAR, not spread out over ten years like the actual war!!!
Sure, Covid came from outside. And different leaders in different countries managed it differently. Trump's piss-poor Covid management is made clear by the relative per capita death rates.
"I look at it this way," Birx told CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta. "The first time, we have an excuse. There were about 100,000 deaths that came from that original surge. All of the rest of them, in my mind, could have been mitigated or decreased substantially."
@MarmeeMarch The numbers don't lie. We had DOUBLE the per capita death rates of countries like Germany & Canada. And let's not even get started on South Korea @MarmeeMarch !!
@ElwoodBlues I understand your frustration But we don't know all the info about Covid19 and the Shots..... We just got the info about the Police planting the fake pipe bomb's on Jan. 6 at the DNC and the RNC
@MarmeeMarch Germany has lots of borders and, as part of the EU, lots of free travel. Canada's makeup is very similar to the US, except they have fewer anti-vaxx horse-paste-swilling idiots.
And speaking of horse paste, no other country had their leader lying for FIVE WEEKS about Covid, nor did they have leaders flogging hydroxychloroquine & ivermectin, both of which failed to do anything in double blind tests.
I don't know the exact numbers, but in 2021 80% of the deaths were among the 25% unvaccinated, who, coincidentally or not, tended to be Trump supporters. Only 25% of US deaths came from the 25% of us who were vaccinated. Details at https://similarworlds.com/disease-illness/vaccines/4268857-Covid-Vaccine-effectiveness-data-from-the-US-2021
You mean after the vaccine that Trump had put in the place under warp speed?
Funny thing about that: Warp Speed funded the Moderna vaccine which was second to market and much less available. Most of the US got vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine which was developed first and didn't take a penny from Op Warp Speed. Op Warp Speed was a good idea, but the Pfizer vaccine - developed by a Turkish couple in German labs - was the one that saved so many American lives.
UPDATE
No, @MarmeeMarch, that's false. Trump did NOT "kick off" vaccine development around the world. Trump formally announced Operation Warp Speed on May 15, 2020, in the White House Rose Garden. Meanwhile, on March 17, in Germany, Pfizer signed a letter of intent with BioNTech to co-develop a potential COVID-19 vaccine. By the time Trump announced Op Warp Speed, Pfizer was already preparing animal studies.
@MarmeeMarch Yes, you DID say that. Here's a quote of you:
Doesn’t matter it was kicked off by Trump’s administration under Trump‘s watch whether you like it or not
DEAD WRONG!!! (and you'll probably delete the post where you said it!)
Meanwhile, on March 17, in Germany, Pfizer signed a letter of intent with BioNTech to co-develop a potential COVID-19 vaccine. By the time Trump announced Op Warp Speed, Pfizer was already conducting phase 1 trials.
Meanwhile, in Feb 2020, Oxford University started developing the Oxford–AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. Oxford–AstraZeneca is a viral vector vaccine, one of MANY such vaccines efforts which were started in Feb & Mar 2020.
The fact is, Trump jumped onto an already rolling bandwagon, with dozens of efforts in multiple nations already underway, and many governments were underwriting vaccine efforts prior to Op Warp Speed. Thus, in typical Trump style, Trump tried to take credit for the efforts of many others.
the fact of the matter is that DT made the promise to deliver some kind of a vax months before it was rolled out in December.
AND, the fact of the matter is that Trump made his announcement on May 7, 2020, which was MONTHS after other nations, with their national health services, had already made similar promises.
AND, the fact of the matter is that Trump made his announcement MONTHS after dozens of vaccine efforts had been started by dozens of research organizations in the US and around the world.
AND, the fact of the matter is that Trump jumped on an already rolling bandwagon. Nothing wrong with that; other nations had made smart moves so it was smart to copy.
AND I find it quite amusing that many right-wingers try give Trump credit for Covid vaccine development, such as you did with your " kicked off by Trump’s administration" comment. In fact, It has been suggested here on SW by various right-wingers that we wouldn't have a vaccine if it weren't for Trump. And as I keep saying, nothing could be further from the truth.
