Does anyone actually believe California will leave the United States?

What then? How will it run and defend itself? Will it be a socialist or communist country?

Of course not. How self-sustaining is California as a country unto itself? It would be intrinsically dependent on the US, enough so to render it effectively a state, so why not simply leave things the way they are?
