What concessions should House Democrats demand from Republicans in exchange for cooperation in electing a Speaker?

Making a deal with Democrats is one of the few obvious ways out of this mess for Republicans, and I’m convinced that Democrats shouldn’t help them for free.

They don't need to do that.

@SumKindaMunster One reason they may want or even need to do it is because in just a few more weeks the funding for the government runs out. That can't be resolved if the house can't vote on anything.

@RosaMarie This again? How many times does this threat have to be thrown out there before you see how empty it is? They'll fund the government, trust me.
@SumKindaMunster The problem is that anyone acceptable to the Freedom Caucus won’t be acceptable to the moderates, and vice versa. Although, if someone is obscure enough like this Johnson guy, either side can say they’re surprised when he doesn’t do what they want.

@LeopoldBloom Well then I guess we'll just be stuck in this cycle forever huh?
@SumKindaMunster I should have checked the news before posting, as they had already picked Mike Johnson. The guy is a theocratic fascist, but he's been around for such a short time, and has accomplished so little, the moderates can get away with saying "oh, we didn't know he would do that" when he shuts down the government unless the Senate passes a national abortion ban.

It's not going to be that bad. Johnson is a terrible fundraiser and has very little negotiation experience. He's going to make McCarthy look like a genius. I predict this guy won't last two months before he upsets someone. The racists are already mad at him for saying that his adopted Black son will have a harder time in life than his white son because of institutional racism.
