It's an awesome responsibility. But someone has to do it.

Would you rather it be China, Russia, the Taliban or the clerics in Iran?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@beckyromero I'd rather nobody send ships to give diplomatic support to the coming genocide in Gaza. Including my own government.

@Burnley123

But would you send troops to help Israel defend itself so that the attacks such as those that happened last weekend could be stopped?

It's sort of like the debate over the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. If the government is not going to allow people to have guns to protect themselves against home invasions, is the government going to station police outside everyone's homes to protect them 24/7?

@beckyromero thats a hot button topic, personally think everyone should be trained in firearms, at least in firearms safety IF they choose to own or operate them.

In the case of israel, they have mandatory military service so the entire of age population could be called up if necessary. So i dont think there is any need for america to put troops there unless they are requested as mediator or something. But even then america is hated as much or more than israel sovi dont know what good it would do.

@beckyromero I was talking about the first amendment to highlight that you are against its application here.

This isn't about whether Israel has the right to defend itself. It's about whether Israel has the right to engage in actions that will likely result in over a hundred thousand civilian deaths.

The Iraq War wax self defense too, right?

Or must Israel (and Ukraine, for that matter) be left to defend themselves alone?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@beckyromero If it's for defense against an attack on civilians then that is different. If defense involves invading a city and killing a hundred thousand civilians to take down terrorists, no that is not justified.

Yes, it's "different."

But forgive me. That's not really an answer.

Would you be in favor of sending U.K. troops to help Israel defend its borders so that attacks such as those that happened last weekend could be prevented?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@beckyromero This is such a longshot hypothetical because Israel has a powerful army within its own country. That is failed to do its job is not anyone else's fault.

I can't give a direct answer to that question because what the Israeli military is doing is not defense, it's revenge. Some of their politicians have been explicit about that too.

They also know full well that taking out Hamas will result in a vast number of civilian deaths but they don't care. They hold all Palestinians collectively responsible and do not value their lives at all.

Is it not Hamas' fault?

Well, you know me and World War II analogies. Wasn't there collective guilt by the Germans for their failure in not ridding themselves of the Nazis? They knew full well the consequences and yet so few acted.

I can't give a direct answer to that question because what the Israeli military is doing is not defense, it's revenge.

What is wrong with a direct answer? So let's put it this way. Would you be in favor of sending U.K. troops to help Israel defend itself against future attacks from Gaza on the condition it doesn't invade Gaza?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@beckyromero Ok. Yes.

I'm also in favour of a lot of other things that are actually relevent. Must go. Bye for now.

@Burnley123 Israel is in an existential situation. They are not saying they want to eliminate any Arab state, while Hamas has vowed to wipe Israel off of the face of the earth, and that has always been their motive, and stated goal. Israel has called up it's reserves, but what happens if the "Arabs" attack on all fronts and really does threaten the future of Israel?

Enjoy the rest of the day. 🙂
