There Sure Is a Lot of Anti-Semitism on SW. And It's Rather Disgusting.

I'm not sure if your definition here so correct me if I'm wrong. I do know your views on foreign policy.

Criticism of Israeli state actions is not anti-Semitism and neither is support for the Palestinian people. We shouldn't conflate the two.

I'm sure you know Hamas' statements and views about Jews (not just about Jews in Israel but Jews in general).

And I'm sure you know what Hamas' views are about the lands that currently constitute the state of Israel and who they think those lands belong to (and not just Gaza or the West Bank, but the entire state of Israel.)

And for that matter the views of Iran and Hezbollah towards Jews.

And I'm sure you are well aware of attacks on and murders of Jews residing outside of the state of Israel.

And I'm confident that you are also well aware of the invective directed towards Jews by neo-Nazis both in Europe and the United States (who have no love for Palestinians either).

So often when there is criticism of Israeli state actions (or "support" for the Palestinian people), the often unanswered question is what are those people advocating?

@beckyromero Thank you. Burnley doesn’t understand all of this, to put it kindly.

He’s ready to condemn Israel for taking action in Gaza without condemning Hamas.

@RedBaron @Burnley123

Burnley and I have always had polite discussions, on topics that we sometimes agree on and sometimes disagree on.

I certainly would not put him in the category of the people I am talking about in the original title of this post.

I have not seen what or if he has written about last week's attacks by Hamas. So I will let him speak to that on his own.
RedBaron · M
@beckyromero I don’t know his true feelings, but he has made several posts hammering Israel for its response while being relatively silent on Hamas and the attacks last weekend.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@RedBaron I have condemned Hamas for targeting civilians several times in posts that I know you have read.

Nice try though.

@beckyromero I used to advocate a two state solution where it was viable. I don't think that is is now because of all the west bank settlements. I'd ideally like a one state where Israelis and Arabs can live side by side though that seems utopian.

My main concern, and what motivates me on this topic, is to stop the killing of huge numbers of people. I value Israeli and Palestinian lives the same

So, what I and the left advocate, is not supporting the military invasion of Gaza because it will result in perhaps north of a hundred thousand deaths
RedBaron · M
@Burnley123 But you have not suggested an alternative. Surely you don’t believe that Israel shouldn’t stand up and defend itself.

Maybe not you, but many on the left actually believe that Israel is at fault for last week’s attack.

I don't think that would happen even if extraterrestrials invaded. The writers of Independence Day were naive to think Arab and Israeli airforces would join together to bring down one of those giant spacecrafts. They'd instead be arguing over who was in overall command or what language would be used for pilot-to-pilot communications.

@RedBaron Just so we are debating on equal terms. Please can you condemn the IDF for using phosphorus gas on Gazans.

You have not used one word to criticise the IDF killing civilians.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@beckyromero I agree with you about Independence Day.

Couldn't resist.
