Why is Netanyahu still the Israeli Prime Minister ?

“Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas,” he told a meeting of his Likud party’s Knesset members in March 2019. “This is part of our strategy – to isolate the Palestinians in Gaza from the Palestinians in the West Bank.”

That’s one of many things that has puzzled me about the Israeli government—hadn’t he been ousted not too long ago ? He’s much like Trump in many ways, including appearing to be Teflon.

@bijouxbroussard There was another hung election (the third in four years I think) but he cobbled together a majority by giving ministerial positions to ultra-orthodox racist fire-breathers.

@bijouxbroussard I am not sure who's stealing pages from the other's playbook, Trump or Netanyahu.

@bijouxbroussard for those of us in the know knew this was coming. You say how because he said out loud and up front what his intentions were and they fail for it anyway and the other side said go ahead make my day ain’t got nothing else to lose.
This is the worst intelligence failure in 50 years. Netanyahu will try to blame security chief Ben-Gvir but I don’t see how he survives this. Golda Meir’s career ended because of the Yom Kippur War, and she was 1000x the leader Bibi is.

@RodionRomanovitch I have a paid subscription to Haaretz.

@Northwest Regardless of what happens in the short term (i.e. the war) , do you think the subsequent inquest and inevitable backlash into his failings will be enough to dislodge him ?
Northwest · M
@RodionRomanovitch He's already agreed to a joint temporary government with the opposition, before any kind of major action is taken. The public sentiment is at a boiling point, and the idea what the Hamas action gave a him a lifeline is disillusionment.

Hamas did Bibi a favor.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Bumbles It's probably secured his position in the short term but I don't see how a fuck-up of this magnitude doesn't go unpunished. Golda Meir was out of office six months after the Yom Kippur war. I expect Bibi will be too.

@RodionRomanovitch Interesting, did not know that. People have lost large sums of money predicting Bibi's downfall before. Their "no water, no fuel" defense minister may be in the hot seat, too. Seems too many troops were in the West Bank...

@RodionRomanovitch I agree. And a lot sooner god forbid anything happens to those hostages
