@LeopoldBloom If you remember right, US Marine Colonel Oliver North took the blame for the entire fiasco, therefore nullifying the Logan Act from being applied as he was technically un the intelligence services, and George H.W. Bush I believe was still acting director of the CIA during the 1980 primaries until he was picked to be Reagan's running mate. They thought of everything to make it look as legal as they could if caught.
