Canada is like wannabe-America right now. Don't know where I could realistically go to avoid the America sphere of influence. But definitely thinking about moving to Europe. Not because of Trump, but just because America is increasingly becoming somewhere I don't want to be anymore.
SamInAZ · 41-45, M
@SW-User what a stupid thing to say. Under Trudeau, Canada is wannabe right-wing? Gtfoh with that bullshit. Canadians are nowhere near as right wing as we are. Sadly.

SW-User
@SamInAZ They are just America imitators. Australia not much different. I know you’re someone who thinks Biden is a far left radical, but to those of us who are actually far left, there are precious few places to go.
SamInAZ · 41-45, M
@SW-User They are further left than we are. More like they imitate Western Europe.

@SW-User Canada certainly is at a disadvantage being so close to America..😷

Then you wish-um America closer.

@Thinkerbell Assumes I regard Chinese business practices as more of a threat than US business practices..And there are a couple of theses in that. See you start from the premise, "America Good" because its what you are used to. The model where you can own a gun and have a lawyer to get you off stuff if you can afford it. But maybe there are other ways for the greater good to all.. I am not saying you are wrong. Just that being hunkered down behind your position (or thiers) is not the best place to see the whole picture..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman
Ugh, Kemo Sabe, if you believe-um CCP have-um better way for greater good of all, then me think you take-um heap big risk. CCP not ONLY about business practices and lawyers, and THAT be heap big part of whole picture, Kemo Sabe.

@Thinkerbell Fallacy of the excluded middle AKA false dichotomy. @whowasthatmaskedman said "other ways," not specifically "CCP." I'm sure you knew that; I'm not sure why you chose your fallacy.

whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Thinkerbell OK. We agree.. So do you want to start with how China deals with its drug problem? Or maybe how China organises health care of 1.3 Billion people??? Like 4 times Americas population?? I dont claim they are anything close to perfect. But America arent the ones to be pointing fingers here.. Nor do the Chiunese have spare carrier groups cruising the globe waiting for trouble to break out anywhere that might threaten their oil supply...
But Elwoods point is well made. 90% of the worlds problems can be solved by stepping away from the "My way is right, therefore your way is wrong" position and looking for common ground to build on that gives both sides more than they have now with the least pain to both. 😷 Standing between the Chinese Dragon, with all its flaws, and the American Eagle. (The less said the better about flaws there) if a way forward for both that requires both to change. Something America seems to have a problem with so far..Where China is changing apace..

Ugh, Kemo Sabe, me suggest we start with Uyghur "re-education" camps and how much CO2 and other pollution China pour into atmosphere, as they build-um equivalent of one coal-fired plant every week.
Tonto always used think-um liberals care heap much about such things.
But you right about how CCP handle drug problem... they kill-um Chinese illegal drug dealers, and make-um heap big profit sell-um fentanyl to Mexican drug cartels to kill-um Americans. Maybe that good example of CCP business practice, Kemo Sabe.

Oh, me forgot about CCP navy. Give-um them time.
Chinese navy already have more ships than American, and they working hard on carriers.

@Thinkerbell You are of course right. And I can equally point to the predominently black US prison population. Many in jail for drug related "crimes". So if the drug problem was dealt with, these people wouldnt be a burned on the nation. As for the navy. At this time only America has a navy with a global reach.. But that same navy is a liability when dealing with a capable land based force away from American shores. A single nuclear missile or even an unguided bomb from above and a whole carrier group is a hole in the water. Its only as a bully against lesser nations the US Navy has teeth.. And coming back to my original point, Neither America, nor China are "right" here. But America cant use words like "freedom" and "justice" any more than China can to defend its position..😷
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@whowasthatmaskedman
Wrong, Kemo Sabe. If nuclear missile fired, then there be all-out nuclear war, and we all dead, or most of us, so CCP or Russia or even Kim very cautious about doing that.
Wrong again, Kemo Sabe... false equivalence, unless you think-um country with free elections no better than one-party dictatorship. Apologists for former Soviet Union used make-um similar argument, "We no better than they are, mebbe worse."

@Thinkerbell OK. Its brave of you to speak of "Free Elections" in America. But from the lobbying operations, the campaign funding, the gerrymandering, voting "qualifications, the pork barrelling and the state and court interference, I really cont need to touch on January 6 to say how much you are stretching to call America a democracy now. And it never was. But lets leave that.. The China central government dont bother with elections..Neither did Queen Elizabeth the first. But she ran a pretty successful government. And without a deficit. So when it comes to improving the lot of over a Billion people, the Chinese can equally say. "What has democracy ever done for us?" And if you want to switch to the Russians. They have been a totalitarian regime since WW2. Not a fair comparison at all. But I can go there if you wish..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman
Ugh, Kemo Sabe, mebbe they all be-um crooks, but at least they have to worry about being thrown out of office, which CCP crooks not worry about, except mebbe individuals who fall-um out of favor, and then sudden heart attack or plane crash arranged. As for Jan 6, if it had been a real Putsch, Pence would have gone along with it, Trump would have called on the National Guard to arrest the Democrats, and we would have had a one-party state. Of course, none of that happened, because American democracy worked.
Queen Elizabeth I, Kemo Sabe? Tonto remind-um you... not many democracies in those days.
[media=https://youtu.be/cydkTy6GmFA]
Tonto remind-um you, Kemo Sabe, Russia not have-um democracy since time immemorial, except mebbe short time during Kerensky government and later when Yeltsin in charge. But Lenin and later Putin soon fix-um that.

@Thinkerbell Now let me remind you that my point was that neither side in this is perfect or even right. Rather that to get the better outcome for most people requires both sides to abandon their ideology and to look for actual solutions that benefit people. Not flags to rally around.. And just as its possible that a central government is not the answer, its equally possible that selecting a bunch of people to vote is equally not the best way to do it. But one thing is for sure. trying to force people to do something they dont believe in is not the way to do it. The best outcome is what American has internally now, with nothing that looks like real progress.. And the worst outcome is what we see in Palestine, with a people being virtually pushed over a cliff..😷

Ugh, Kemo Sabe... heap big truism. 🙄
Ugh, Kemo Sabe, mebbe that true in short term, but dictatorships not have-um good track record in long term. Eventually, people get-um sick of dictatorship and it either collapse or there be-um bloody revolution or bloody lost war. At least with democracy, scoundrels can be removed by vote, to give other group of scoundrels a chance. Vote act-um as safety valve.
And yes, Kemo Sabe, sometimes dictatorship prevail-um in short term over democracy. Sparta defeated Athens in the Peloponnesian War, but where is Sparta today, or even after Alexander's time?
...by the intransigence of the Islamo-fascists who want to annihilate Israel.

@Thinkerbell Absolutely correct. And another Truism in that Democracy is a terrible system of government. Except that its better than anything else we have discovered so far.. Who knows.. Maybe Skynet will do better?? But the fact is that humans as a species are such B@$t@rd$ that we represent more of a threat to ourselves than anything else does. The people of Gaza are victims of themselves, Hamas, the Israelis and neighbouring countries that dont care and dont want them..I hope someone shows them a little charity. But I dont see it happening...😷
