The MAGA contingent in Congress can get him to do whatever they want. He's their Puppet Speaker. MAGA wants to burn down the US Government and McCarthy just wants to hold on to the Speaker's seat.

@Pitchblue No, Republicans want to cut spending. Do you support out of control deficit spending?
Spotpot · 41-45, M
@Strictgram Better funding the IRS properly and get rich tax cheats to pay what they owe the problem is revenue.

@Strictgram

Deficit spending your issue, mate? Pathetic..

windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Bumbles If you extend this out into the Biden Presidency, the rate of increase has slowed from the huge Trump deficits.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Strictgram The two biggest deficits in history were both Trump budgets. Republicans aren't for cutting spending except when there is a Democratic president. There was already an agreement in place between McCarthy and Biden after the potential government default earlier in 2023. Why won't McCarthy honor his own agreement? Does his word mean ANYTHING?
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
@Pitchblue he is one of them, the MAGA unit.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@windinhishair There is nothing he won’t do to keep his “Speakership.”

@Bumbles I think you are correct.

Here's a really simple question at the end of a few set-up questions

1) Given an out-of-balance budget/deficit spending situation, that means

income - spending < 0, or

income + deficit = spending, right?

2) We had a deficit spending situation under Trump, right?

3) If we ALREADY have deficit spending

old_income < old_spending, or

old_income + old_deficit = old_spending

If we go to some new, LESSER income

new_income < old_income, or

new_income + income_reduction = old_income

then
old_income + old_deficit = old_spending

(new_income + income_reduction)
+ old_deficit = old_spending, or

new_income +
(old_deficit + income_reduction) = old_spending

SO

new_deficit = old_deficit + income_reduction

new_deficit > old_deficit

Basic algebra.

4) So, given all that...

a) How does reducing America's income during a time of deficit-spending make sense?

b) Supporting Trump supported INCREASED DEFICITS, since he reduced income!
