We don't hear about it because it's awkward and uncomfortable.
The general interpretation I get is that that was Israelite law, and while the verse affirms that homosexuality is wrong (also bolstered by Paul), we don't have to follow the prescribed Levite punishment for it.
Yeah, I don't find it particularly compelling either.
