Legislation always means spending money on something but maybe doing nothing is not so bad.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Subsumedpat Right. Why don't we eliminate spending on national defense? That would save lots of money.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@windinhishair we could probably save a lot of money there but I would not want to put the soldiers in the unemployment line.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Subsumedpat Why not? "Doing nothing is not so bad" according to you. Why worry about others if it involves spending money?
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@windinhishair Because sooner or later we would need those particular others. There are plenty of other others who we should not worry about.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Subsumedpat I see. So in other words, we should spend money on some things but not on others. Gee, it almost sounds like legislating to make choices in spending would be preferable to "doing nothing".
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@windinhishair But they don't actually make choices they fund it all sending us down the tubes in the long run. The us debt and its % of gdp goes up every year with not sign of ever stopping but in the end that math won't work.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Subsumedpat Except the US makes choices every year in how to spend money, and how much to spend. You haven't studied government, have you? Do you think the budget creates itself with no human input?
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@windinhishair No it has human input maybe that is the problem, a computer would use math and not spend more than it can pay for.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Subsumedpat So you would rather have a computer make funding decisions? What if it decides not to fund national defense or Social Security or Medicare? Or decides to raise taxes to what they were in 1979? You would be fine with that?
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@windinhishair It would be programed to provide funding on a priority basis
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Subsumedpat I see. So someone would have to decide priorities, like whether to fund national defense or Social Security and Medicare. Sure sounds like human input to me. Maybe it would be easier if Congress would do their job and initiate spending at the Constitution dictates?
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@windinhishair They can't they are too divided we are doomed the sky is falling abet slowly.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Subsumedpat They can, and we will end up with a budget. Republicans can purposely destroy the process, but eventually the country will have a budget.
