As an outsider (I live in Europe) I believe that 80% of the American people are neither left nor right-wing extremists, they are fed up with political radicalism, they are just normal middle-of-the-road Joes and Janes, and I think I can safely assume they will vote for the party and the president who is more moderate.

@helenS a lot of those people also tend to just not vote a lot of the time. I personally know more far left people than i know left leaning people. And I know more middle right people than I know far right people.

@ViciDraco Yes but that's probably just you... when I was in America almost everyone I've ever met was center left/right. In my opinion, those ordinary people should vote those extremists out of office.

@helenS It’s not just him. He is correct. Candidates on the extreme right (Barry Goldwater, 1964) and the extreme left (George McGovern, 1972) traditionally lose big.
