What are the systemic injustices in American society?

Let's talk about it like family, honestly, without pulling punches.

The compensation ratio between executives (CEO) and workers. It was 58 to 1 in 1989, and in 2021 it's 399 to 1. Since 2021 it has only gotten worse. Historically, I try not to pander to class envy, but after reading about the bloated compensation some C-levels receive even if the corp is dying on the vine, hard not to get pissed off. I read about a CEO making $43M last year, and that same corp dropped their employee purchase program, so some poor employee or retiree can't even get a discount on their own product.

@BrewCityBarfly America is a capitalist democracy. It allows Americans to be homeless while others have hundreds of billions of dollars. This is the kind of society we live in. China is a socialist state, doesn't allow this kind of injustice, and have been throttling their billionaires as she uplifts the economic well being of her bottom 10% of society. And yet, we view China as tyrannical and our enemy.

We can't have our cake and eat it too.
@sree251 I would never advocate for a Chinese communist system. Prosperity there is inexorably linked to being a party advocate, and some of the "throttling" is merely a propaganda campaign to alter perceptions. They have as much of an issue a we do, maybe worse.

I'm not one for socialist ideologies, however, the longer we let money hoarders continue to do so, the wealth gap worsens.

@BrewCityBarfly Ok, you are dismissive of any economic model but the American one. I understand that. How do you propose to rectify the injustices in America? Even the American homeless guy is a capitalist like you are. Each of us is out for himself. It's dog eat dog.
@sree251 Socialism would greatly reduce economic inequality. And even if you don't want to go full socialist, the systems they have in the Nordic countries is also way better than America.

@sree251 thats absolute nonsense. A homeless person is that, homeless and not a capitalist. If it was dog eat dog then society would have collapsed long ago

@BohemianBabe So they tell me. Taxes are high. At least, they don't squander it all on foreign wars and spend the taxes on the people.

America is about freedom. It is our unique cultural DNA. With the separation of church from state, secularism has erased off all sense of human decency, and freedom has descended into a free for all, winner takes all society.

@Guitarman123 You don't consider the American shambles as a collapse in society?
@sree251 Socialism would mean more freedom. Right now, so much freedom is gatekept behind wealth. This is why Socialists believe that we need Democracy of both the government and the workplace. We spend so much of our lives working jobs where we don't have a say in how things are done. We have legal freedoms, but we don't really have freedom in practice if we don't have the time or money to live how we want, plus we're spending eight hours a day taking orders from unaccountable people.

That's so disingenuous as to be trolling.

Those aren't the only two alternatives; there are MANY choices in between. Many folks have proposed reversing Trump's tax cuts for the rich. Our capital gains tax rate doesn't need to be so low. Some folks have even proposed taxes on wealth above a few $billion. After all, if you've got $ billions in property, you get much more benefit from the society that protects that property.

Our best economy of the last 50 years was during Clinton, and he began with a tax increase. You, @sree251, have got to stop believing those pernicious supply side lies. Your tax cuts have never increased revenue; all they do is benefit the very wealthy who don't need the benefit.
