Can Vivek Ramaswamy become President?

He has charisma, abysmal far-right politics and is a blowhard but is not literally an inmate. He ticks a lot of GOP boxes. Sigh
deadgerbil · 22-25
Abysmal is right. From Ukraine to climate change to views of race in this country, the guy embodies a lot of what the right spews. And these people want to be upset over the deplorables lable lol
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Dude speaks like a pro-wrestler cutting a promo, it's pretty fascinating.

I think he could become President but the chances are low. Granted, the chances were low for Trump to become President so I'm open to all terrible options.

Trump will likely win the primary without lifting a finger. He's at 50% and his multiple indictments only raise his profile and keep him the #1 figure in the news. And he will stay at it because I'm sure he's convinced he can pardon himself which uh, I think is partially true. The news is all Trump all day every day and his multiple cases will be the trials of the century.

Vivek is also Hindu, brown, and running for a party full of racist Christian chauvinists. Even if he's actually the kinda person they want, he has so many enormous hurdles to clear I don't see it happening.

But I have been wrong and will be wrong again.

@CountScrofula Over here, your UKIPish Tories really love Suella Braverman and Priti Patel. If you beat up on migrants, they give you a pass.
Vin53 · M
No. Too much melanin.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Vin53 I know this sounds racist. But its in fact realist. He is running for the Republican party...😷
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I certainly hope not.

The only way - the only way - he could get the nomination and office is if Trump is out of the running.

The greater fear is that our justice system won't be able to close with train-sized loophole in time regarding a current felon being able to run as the nation's leader. Should Trump receive the nomination and win the presidency without a decent Democratic nominee put forth, the next four years may push the country in a direction from which reversing course will take generations.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Graylight I've heard it suggested that he could be Trump's VP. Given he is younger and more competent Trump, that would be a worry.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Burnley123 Well, maybe so, maybe no. Traditionally, the VP spot doesn't get handed to the next best in line. Oftentimes, a VP pick isn't known at all to the general public, and you can bet Trump wouldn't take anyone who stole even a second's worth to TV time from him. And our VP role, while is shouldn't be, it diminished to the capacity of meeting ambassadors, sitting in at meetings and extending the President's agenda quietly. That doesn't sound like Ramaswamy.

In this new world, of course, anything is possible.

... And Trump proved that a conman does not disqualify someone from the highest office of the land, and in fact, that a yuuuge asset, so he's got that going for him. One minor glitch, there are so many suckers in our country, and 99% of them would rather die than see a brown guy, from a shithole country become President. It's kind of like, God forbid, a Muslim, native to Kenya, become President. What will they do? start another Tea Party? That's been done.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Northwest I've said this to other people but we here have a Conservative Hindu PM. I don't agree with Sunak but tbh he is more like Romney than Trump on the political spectrum.

We also have Suella Braverman as Home Sevretary. She is a Buddhist but is also staunchly on the authoritarian right of the Conservative Party. Your Brexity, rightwing Tory voters who think immigrants are stealing our jobs really like her, just as they also liked Priti Patel.

Racial preferences can be a selective thing. If you are an upper-middle-class politician who beats down on immigrants and fights the war on 'woke', then you get a pass. Obviously, America is not the same but this is something that surprised me.
Only if he runs unopposed.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
He has this much chance.

Something very shady… read about him and his company. Not profitable but the stock is up 300% in a year? And why isn’t that being covered?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
It's amazing no one asked for his birth certificate yet... 😅

But the white christian nationalism is still there though:

@Kwek00 As long as you say, what far-right white men think then it is OK if you have a different skin colour.

@jshm2 so incompetent that they are the 5th largest economy in the world?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@jshm2 I really don't like Sunak. But...

I am also really glad that this triggers you. 🤣
Hopefully not- "Let's give away Ukraine to appease an oppresor"
No... Trump wants his second term...
helenS · 36-40, F
I wonder who could really replace Mr Trump once he's being imprisoned for 35 years or so. A guy the deplorables would vote for reliably. A convincing working class hero, a perfect "I feel your pain" actor.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
IMO, Vivek is a lighter version of DeSantis. They both want to destroy the country.
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
I don't see a Hindu getting elected in the US in 2024.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@GlitterEater I would have said that about the UK in 2022.
Human1000 · M
No, he comes off as a smug punk, and in a primary being Hindu will not help. But, then again, stranger things have happened…
Renaci · 36-40
I remember seeing on the news as a child a black man that was a klan member. None of the others took him seriously.
This reminds me of that.
