Pardon Me, Irony

An oldie, but goodie. Trump, the candidate, October 2016, at the Al Smith dinner, which benefits Catholic charities:

"We have proven that we can actually be civil to each other. In fact just before taking the dais, Hillary accidentally bumped into me – and she very civilly said, ‘pardon me,’" Trump said, a veiled reference at his debate stage pledges to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Clinton if he wins the presidency.

"And I very politely replied, ‘Let me talk to you about that after I get into office,’" Trump said. "just kidding, just kidding."

I remember when the rules at that dinner were that you only made good-natured jokes and did not attack the other candidate in a political way. Obama, for example, told jokes about McCain's age that had McCain laughing so hard he almost fell off his chair! But that is very different from what Trump did. That dinner is supposed to be a temporary truce.

But you'll note that, once in office,Trump never actually started an investigation into Clinton, although he had the authority and complete justification to to so.
