The US should pass patent reform that wouldn't retroactively make inventions that recieved any taxpayer R&D ineligible for patients.

Just imagine if insulin, COVID vaccines, environmental emissions technology on vehicles got opened up to a free market as public domain as asprine, AA batteries or incandescent light bulbs do to taxpayer Reserch and development funds.

That's what makes pharmaceutical emissions technology in cars, or even many modern safety features so expensive on brand new cars.

We as taxpayers paid for the research and development while private companies we given the patents by the government.

The government does not give companies money for R&D. They may loan companies $s, for strategic initiatives.

The government grants money to research institutions, usually schools, and in return the government gets rights to the intellectual property.
