My solution hits two birds with one stone. So an oil platform off the coast to house migrants the homeless while also generating wind and solar to NYC while doing desalination. Let's fix it not bandage it.

The cost of constructing offshore housing will be orders of magnitude higher than building housing on land.

@windinhishair I don't think you realize how many abandoned oil platforms there already are.

@LordShadowfire Even if they are free, the cost of housing would be far higher when you factor in transportation costs, food costs, waste disposal costs, etc., all of which will cost much more than on dry land.
