Vivek Ramaswamy declares US high schoolers 'should be required' to pass basic civics test

All immigrants to the U.S. must pass a basic civics test during a naturalization interview in order to become American citizens

Vivek Ramaswamy slams 'laughable' allegation behind 2024 run: 'This is a joke'

2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy joined 'Fox News Sunday' to discuss his candidacy and why he is best equipped to lead the country as President of the United States.

2024 GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy recently declared that all U.S. high schoolers "should be required" to pass the same civics test that immigrants must pass to become U.S. citizens.

The entrepreneur, author, and "America First" GOP candidate proposed his idea to Twitter Friday along with a sample of civics questions from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website that young citizens should know.

Ramaswamy tweeted, "Every high school student should be required to pass the *same* 128-question civics test required of legal immigrants to become citizens. The fact that this is controversial in America is a damning indictment of our Republic’s health.

hell, they can't tell time or write in cursive anymore. good thought but you know, the teachers don't have time to teach those basic things EXCEPT trans sex in the schools....sorry, i just see the irony here

@akindheart sigh....I truly doubt that trans sex is "taught" in any school district (as in how to be trans) except maybe by a rogue teacher who deserves to be fired...what MIGHT be taught is respect for others who may be different than you, or believe things that might be different than you do.

@Corporalcolleague sorry. i don't want my children to learn about "sexual differences" in school. Sex is for the parents AND i would rather them learn to write and tell time. you know...those basic things. have a great day.

@akindheart I totally agree and its wonderful that you have the ability to have that very important conversation with your children. Sadly, many people don't and rely upon the schools to do the job that responsible people like you do.

@Corporalcolleague wow...thank you. that took a turn I didnt expect. but thank you again. yes i do believe sex belongs in the home and yes sadly the parents don't do a good job of it

I agree that current educational system is suboptimal but I blame the helicopter parents for the problems. Heavens forbid that their precious little entitled brats are held accountable for performance and civil behaviour. Teachers and administrators are bombarded by parents and the associated lawyers demanding that little Johnny be promoted just for showing up most days.
And now they need to contend with book banners who are trying to shove the dictates of the Southern Baptist hypocrites ( and other pseudo religions) down everyone's throats.

As for cursive it is obsolete. The Guttenberg press was invented to replace cursive but it has taken until now to fully achieve its goal. Common electronic devices have eliminated the need for cursive. Text prevents us from struggling to interpret bad handwriting.

I believe the biological aspects of sex should be taught in high school. The moral aspects should be a parental function. My wife had to listen to too many young women claim they could not be pregnant because they only did it once or he pulled out. The amount of ignorance about sex in our society is staggering.

@jim44444 absolutely agree.
