I think we should all keep this graph in mind when the GOP nomination comes in:

Personally, I need to keep reminding myself that half the country didn't vote for Trump, but the same is true for Biden.

Northwest · M
Nearly 35% of eligible voters did not cast a vote. That means absolutely nothing, and by not voting, they implicitly accepted the winner.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
This is data supplied by "The United States Elections Project" (I really don't know much about it) as cited in a Wikipedia article.

The first number is the percent of the voting-age population who turned out. The second number is the percent of the voting-eligible population (excluding, for example, felons in prison) who turned out.

@DrWatson So 2020 had one of the highest turnouts. Interesting, that's not the impression that I got from casual reading of the media.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I think we need to keep in mind how much of that 80 million is pretty much constant from election to election. (I have no idea what the number is). All that matters in an election is what percent of the vote a candidate gets, not how much of the country. There will always be a sizeable number of people who do not vote.
Bill1372 · 51-55, M
Until a viable third party gains traction, (which I don’t see in the foreseeable future) nothing will change with the constant feuding between Dems and Republicans… They need a third party for the two of them to worry about..
@Bill1372 I nominate Trump to split off from the republicans and start that third party!!!
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Bill1372 So long as you still have first past the post elections it will make little difference. Look at the Liberal party in the UK.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I was thinking maybe “ eliminate standard deduction and allow no itemized deductions for non voters federal taxes”, but no those in the red on this graph I don’t want to see them vote unless they vote blue.
RedBaron · M
But that’s true in every presidential election. What’s the big whoop?
@RedBaron I just think it's easy to forget when people are screaming about half the country feeling this way or that way.
RedBaron · M
@MistyCee Nothing new under the sun.
@RedBaron Sure, but I thought it was worth taking out of the shade.

It helps my piece of mind, anyway.
Everyone already knows that the majority can't matter.
Unless they actually decided to become a country with politics. Lol. Murka. Yeah it's a Cuntry, alright.
I am surprised to see that chart.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
What a disgrace eh? Some western democracies including Canada really take democracy for granted.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
That’s a great point. Why do you think that might be?
TexChik · F
Mail-ins , dead people, and dominion voted for Biden. No one else would admit voting for this sh*t show.
TexChik · F
@MistyCee I find it delusional on your part to be whining about Trump while the country is being destroyed by biden and whoever controls him. Are you completely daft? Do you not see? Or do you just ignore the disaster befalling this country because of the incestuous pedophile you voted for?
@TexChik I definitely haven't seen that particular light.
TexChik · F
@MistyCee Is there a large hole in the ground where you place your head or are you just avoiding taking any responsibility?
Zonuss · 46-50, M
It doesnt matter. As long as people do vote nothing will change.
@Zonuss Wait, are you suggesting that people shouldn't vote if they want change?
BlueVeins · 22-25
This is why nobody fucks with the grillers
LordShadowfire · 46-50, MVIP
80 million Americans better get off their asses.

@MarmeeMarch I can't see all 80M voting. It's more like trying for small pieces, and given the current state of the GOP, I think there are lots more Democratic votes to be had.
