Here's the exact number of slaves California had: 0
goodlil666 · 51-55, M
Reparations for descendants of slaves are the most ridiculous , unjustified, misguided efforts attempting to steal from the taxpayers for something that ended over 150 yrs ago. And of which no one alive today bears any responsibility for.
If anyone at all would be entitled to reparations from the government it would be the Native Americans. Which were nearly exterminated by the governments persistent campaign of genocide for over 100 yrs and for repeatedly stealing their land from them. The mistreatment and atrocities committed against the slaves are not even a shadow of the unfathomable, unthinkable , unforgivable atrocities committed against the real Americans. .....Just saying

@Zonuss You are displaying your lack of intelligence, lack of reasoning, and lack of historical knowledge about the topic of this post. As well as your opinions about who I am , being completely wrong.
I live less than 120 miles from our southern border. I see the effects of Illegal immigration daily as well as the affects of it. Illegal immigration needs to STOP !!
You introduced race into the conversation by assuming ...again.
Fact....there were no black native Americans until after 1526 when the first ship load of slaves arrived in the Americas. And escaped slaves started breeding with native Americans.
Fact ....less than 500,000 slaves were brought to the United States of America of some 10 million who were shipped across the middle passage over some 250 yr time span.
Fact.... estimates are over 5 million of the number of native Americans in the United States alone who lost their lives in roughly the same time span.
Fact.... Numerous government policies and treaties that had no beneficial long term protection of native Americans human rights, civil rights or property rights . In fact just the opposite.
How anyone can compare the magnitude of atrocities committed against the slaves ... by mostly private land owners , to that of the magnitude of atrocities committed against native Americans by the entire governmental establishment must be blind or stupid.
So it's very obvious that who , if anyone is entitled to reparations from the government.
Which in MY opinion is no one. All of this ended over 120 yrs ago . Tax payer money is not going to heal the wounds. Only getting to know, accept and respect our brothers and sisters of all races can have that affect. That's my opinion after getting to know the FACTS.
NOT LOOKING TO NOR WILL I DEBATE ANY OF THIS .

@goodlil666 False. The Native American indigenous Black were already here. They were not shipped. This goes back centuries as they were not completely part of the Slave Trade that took place in 1400's.
Number two indentured servants slavery did not end until 1976.
Number three there are laws being passed now to give the land back to the Black and Red people as the old family lineages fades away.

Reparations are a repellant to working taxpayers and companies and a magnet for those seeking handouts. Even Newsom can see where this is going.

He's an undeclared candidate for the democrat presidential nomination in 2024. polls show he's safely on the "right" side of this issue, should he decide to run . ..

Here's what he actually said, in response to a request for comment from Fox:
This statement was sent to Fox, in response to an inquiry by the latter. Here's the Fox headline, following Gov Newsom's statement:
Here's your post:
Your really should read the statement, instead of simply copying and pasting the misleading Fox headline.
The legacy of slavery “is about much more than cash payments. The Reparations Task Force’s independent findings and recommendations are a milestone in our bipartisan effort to advance justice and promote healing. This has been an important process, and we should continue to work as a nation to reconcile our original sin of slavery and understand how that history has shaped our country.
Many of the recommendations put forward by the Task Force are critical action items we’ve already been hard at work addressing: breaking down barriers to vote, bolstering resources to address hate, enacting sweeping law enforcement and justice reforms to build trust and safety, strengthening economic mobility — all while investing billions to root out disparities and improve equity in housing, education, healthcare, and well beyond. This work must continue
Following the Task Force’s submission of its final report this summer, I look forward to a continued partnership with the Legislature to advance systemic changes that ensure an inclusive and equitable future for all Californians.

Nowadays you see more and more "kids" sueing their parents estate because they're not mentioned in the wills
Budwick · 70-79, M
I wonder if there are some African American citizens residing California here on SW.
If so, let us know how you will be spending your $1.2 Million dollars.
Will they be sending you a check?
Delivering via armored truck?
Will you be paid from high speed rail profits?
Do you think you will ever see any of this ridiculous promise?
And, if not - do you feel more disenfranchised than before?

@Budwick well i am sure they will be investing in the homeless situation in CAL, right?

From a state running 30 billion in the red, they can't afford to pay attention. Wokism is brokism

Lolz…

True! Real reparations are systemic. A one-time payment doesn't fix anything.
BohemianBabe · M
@SusanInFlorida We should have a universal basic income, so generational welfare in that sense. And yeah, we should have free housing. That, plus expanding the ACA and raising the minimum wage would end poverty.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@BohemianBabe it there any place in time or history where giving everyone extra money did anything except cause overpopulation and consumerism?
BohemianBabe · M
@SusanInFlorida Raising the living standards doesn't cause overpopulation, it actually reduces birthrates.

As a result of that decision, the lunatic fringe wants him to outlaw white people instead. 🤣 You can't make this stuff up.
