Who is hallucinating, the machines or their makers?

Naomi Klein is maybe the most prescient political commentator of our generation.

The TLDR is that AI controlled by capitalist 'disruptors' has serious dystopian potential. The boffins who work for them privately think that their research has an average of 'only' 10% of producing a Skynet scenario. Even if not, we can look forward to more power in fewer hands and most labour being unnecessary for the function of capital.

In other news, the AI training has breached a multitude of human intellectual property rights but they hope you get used to using the new cool 'free' toys before anyone cares. Maybe the Luddites were right after all.

That is the tldr, but please read this.

"I'm a postmodernist. I believe whatever my chosen media sources tell me.
I have no standards for evidence or objective truth."

Wonder who said that....

Fabulous article I really love her
We're told you believe in conscious machines but not socialism.
No doubt it's true.
It's shocking.

@Roundandroundwego Iain M Bank's Culture novels had both. In this world, the high-tech hit squads will be owned by Elon Musk-type people. Joy.
