New York Becomes First State to Pass Legislation Banning Use of Natural Gas for Heating and Cooking

The Biden Regime said reports claiming they were seeking to ban gas stoves was a conspiracy theory.

Chuck Schumer went out of his way to chastise those concerned saying, “Nobody is taking away your gas stove.”

The Gateway Pundit reported that earlier this year, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said gas-powered stoves are a ‘hidden health hazard.’

Although Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm mocked the millions of Americans concerned about the federal government’s plans to put restrictions on gas stoves, she admitted the Biden Regime wants to ban “some” gas stoves.

Now, New York State is banning the use of natural gas for heating and cooking in some new buildings.

According to The New York Times, “The provisions will require new buildings to be constructed with only electric hookups for appliances and utilities beginning in 2025. The law will go into effect for buildings with fewer than seven stories beginning in 2026. The requirements will kick in for taller buildings by 2029.”

Probably will create a demand for older houses, or loopholes where they will leave one wall of an older house standing so as to call it a "remodel" and not new construction.

I wonder how many buyers of new houses really want gas stoves. Where I live it seems like people are getting rid of gas stoves in favor of electric. I just bought a new gas range mainly because a new electric range would have required a service panel upgrade.

That said I am definitely not in favor of an outright ban because my feeling is that most people will choose electric anyway. Especially households with women, because it seems like the women I know always claim they smell a gas leak...:)

But this isn't the first thing that got banned or phased out that people raised a huge stink about and turns out most people didn't care (analog television, leaded gas, etc)

@trollslayer Gas is less expensive.
Better to cook with - far more control.
When storms take out electric - gas heat still works.
Gas is a no brainer.

@Budwick I agree, but many would rather not fool with it. When I recently bought my new range, there were few gas options at the appliance store, even in a neighborhood that was 100% gas 70 years ago. I could use the same arguments about manual transmissions, but few want to fool with them anymore.

@trollslayer I ran into the same thing.
I had them ORDER the gas range we wanted.
