So in the UK we go to the voting stations today to vote in the local elections

Its going to be an interesting time today to see if the Tories implode, Labour have massive gains or do the Liberals, Greens and independents make a surprise and do well.

We all have our own reasons to vote, how we vote, if its by loyalty to one party, to give the party a bloody nose, to vote strategically but please vote, don't give that lame excuse my vote is by not voting that's such a sad thing to do as no doubt you've been moaning about things so don't waste this opportunity to make your voice heard at the polling stations

I don't understand why the requirement for photo identification would lead to significant numbers not voting. Most people should have this form of identification now, and if they can't or won't use it for voting it's really their own fault

@SW-User most elderly people don't or many poor people as the two most recognised forms are driving licence or passport. My mother and mother in law both didn't have either for last 20 years of their lives. I didn't have a driving licence a few years ago due to a medical condition, it can be withdrawn at any time if a doctor decided I'm unfit to drive. Due to that condition i don't have a passport as I can't consider travelling either so I've let it lapse. I could easily be one of those with neither.

My issue is there is no requirement by law to have a government issued photo id but you can't vote without it. Simple solution: give everyone a free photo id then no issue. But to impose a requirement for it to vote but not supply it for free is to me discrimination against poor, elderly, disabled etc
