@Carla the problem comes in when they argue about Lincoln being conservative and against slavery (a constitutional issue). They use the argument as a defense. That the party has always been the same and that democrats were the slavers.

Yes he was a republican yet both republicans and democrats had switched ideals shortly after Lincolns assassination.

I have said to them that Lincoln was a Yankee in the south.
