Colorado Court Rules Against Jack Phillips

Alliance Defending Freedom learned that the Colorado Court of Appeals has ruled against cake artist Jack Phillips.

Now, Jack is facing more time in court. More time away from the cake shop he built and what he loves. More time in the spotlight facing scrutiny. And more time fighting for the freedom to say what he believes without fearing government punishment.

It's amazing that after more than ten years, Jack is still fighting for his right to speak freely. You might remember that at the beginning of his journey, Jack was targeted because he cannot, in good conscience, create a custom cake celebrating a same-sex wedding. Jack cannot violate his conscience and he shouldn't be forced to. No American should.

Then, after two wins, including one win at the U.S. Supreme Court, attacks on Jack still didn't stop. He continues to be harassed. Last year, a Colorado court punished him for not designing a cake that would celebrate a gender transition.

The request for this cake came from an activist attorney who said, under oath, the attorney would continue to harass Jack, in order to correct the errors of Jack's thinking.

And you wonder why....

Running a business is a privilege not a right. When you open a business you agree to certain legal requirements. You agree to that and then whine and cry because you are being held to those obligations is childish and stupid.

And good job making the exact same arguments as segregationists.

And tell me without telling me you don't understand the 1st amendment.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Why do you think operating a business is a privilege? You obviously don't understand the U.S. constitution nor our free enterprise system. It's frightening to hear someone say that earning a living by risking your own money and through your own efforts is somehow a government-granted "privilege".
@LeeInTheNorthWoods Because it is. You clearly have no idea what the US constitution says if you think differently. lol.

Earning a living and running a business are not the same thing.

If you don't like facts that is not my problem. You are not entitled to a business.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I ran a business and earned a living for more than 35 years. I also had more than 40 unionized employees who supported their families by working for that business. When I retired, two long-term, loyal staff members bought the business from me and are still operating it today.

But thank you for your condescending comments about a topic of which you clearly are unfamiliar.
@LeeInTheNorthWoods That is nice. Still doesn't change a thing.

I know what I am talking about. Clearly you do not. Stating facts is not condescending it is simply stating the truth.

Running a business is a privilege. When you agree to run a business you agree to basic requirements. This business owner is whining that they are being held accountable to the requirements of running legal business. I have no sympathy for that.

You are not entitled to a business license any more than you are entitled to a driver's license.

Both are privileges afforded by the state on condition that you agree to specific terms.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow 800 bakers in Colorado and those two just randomly picked that bakery. Got it....

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow A privilege you say? I seem to recall some language about the pursuit of happiness being a right. Some amount of regulations okay but in every business I’ve worked for we reserved the right to refuse service. Like when I sold firearms. Four separate times I refused what was obviously a straw purchase but I could not have produced legally actionable evidence. It’s just discretion. I don’t suppose you feel I should have been forced to make those sales.
