What’s Going On? Reports of Loud Explosion in Mission, Texas are Being Investigated by Multiple Agencies After a Meteor was Spotted in the Area

Two aircraft reportedly sighted a meteor west of McAllen, Texas, shortly before residents reported hearing a loud explosion and feeling the ground shake.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra was alerted by federal colleagues that Houston Air Traffic Control received reports from two aircraft claiming they witnessed a meteor west of McAllen.

“Was informed by my Federal partners that Houston Air Traffic Control received reports from two aircrafts that they saw a meteorite west of McAllen,” Sheriff Guerra said.

“Where the exact point of impact is unknown. No reports of any damage in that area has been received,” he continued.

Wow, that's familiar turf for me.

When I was a teen I witnessed one that lit up the night sky as it streaked almost horizontally before disappearing beneath the distant horizon. No explosions or anything as it extinguished. Learned later that it landed in the Gulf hundreds of miles away.
