Don't believe the official govt explanation? Wait a minute for it to change . . .

I wish I'd been there in 1947, when the flying saucer/weather balloon crashed in Roswell New Mexico. This event of course is the archetype of contradictory US explanations for aerial phenomena. And the resulting conspiracy theories. Let me dismiss the Roswell flying saucer BS with a single sentence: wouldn't 1940's folks who'd never seen a weather balloon be completely baffled by it? And wouldn't the military immediately haul away the debris if the balloon's payload was something OTHER than a barometer and wind speed sensor? (okay – that's 2 sentences)

Let's fast forward to the present. Over the past week various officials and spokespersons made the following statements about recent UFOs. Which of these are believable, which are complete BS, and which are highly unlikely? (I've given my own opinion next to each item).

1 - “We haven't yet recovered a single piece of debris from the 4 near-arctic objects shot down since Saturday (complete BS)
2 - “The original balloon, shot down over South Carolina, was a Chinese surveillance device” (yes, I believe this)
3 - “The South Carolina object may have strayed off course by accident” (highly unlikely – this explanation was served up yesterday as part of the first steps to de-escalate and walk back international tensions)
4 - “The US hasn't had any of its own spy balloons over Chinese territory” (highly unlikely)
5 - “The 4 near-arctic objects had no visible means of propulsion” (probably true)
6 - “The 4 near-arctic objects were shot down because the posed an imminent threat to commercial aviation” (highly unlikely)
7 - “The 4 near arctic objects interfered with the jet fighters' instrumentation” (Unlikely, but I'm keeping an open mind about this one)
8 - “We haven't ruled out extraterrestrial origin for the 4 near-arctic objects” (Complete BS)
9 - “No nation has claimed responsibility for the 4 near-arctic objects” (probably true)
10 - “NORAD is not tracking any additional high-altitude objects currently” (complete BS - they get radar hits every day)

Of course, you own responses may differ, based on factors like your security clearance, education level, naivete, and whether you've ever been abducted by a UFO.

Now if only some of those top-secret papers which Trump and Biden "mishandled" were concerning UFOs, I'd really get excited. Do you know that Elvis once gave an interview about the time a drunk President Nixon took him to an underground vault in some government building and actually SHOWED him dead aliens? No wonder they had to kill Elvis . . .

The one statement that's probably true is "these objects have been wafting over the US for years, but we didn't notice them until last month."

You should read up on the Elvis-Nixon meeting if you're unfamiliar with it. The idea was that Nixon wanted Elvis to be an anti-drug spokesman (because in the early 70s, Elvis had such a close connection to the young folks). So Elvis shows up to the meeting with Nixon, stoned out of his gourd. I don't know if Nixon was blind drunk himself at that meeting, he didn't start drinking heavily until Watergate.
@SusanInFlorida I agree. These things aren't dangerous, and shooting them down every time they appear is ridiculous. I think what's happening now is this is a hot news item, so the administration is making a big deal about responding to them in a completely disproportionate way. In another month, everyone will have forgotten about them and any that appear will be tracked and jammed without being a news story.

@LeopoldBloom apparently one of the "cylinders" shot down last weekend by the USAF was funded by a government grant. Some university thing.

Shouldn't all these things at least have transponders, which say "I was launched on (date) by (owner)? Please call 1-800 . . for details"?
@SusanInFlorida You would think there would be a transponder, or at least advance notice to the authorities that a research object would be flying overhead.

This is a hot issue right now, so they have to keep shooting them down until the news cycle moves on to the next outrage. At least this took peoples' minds off trans athletes and other dire threats to the republic.

You know how we all know what happens in the corporate boardroom of Amazon and when things are rolling out?

That's because we're not privy to affairs we're not responsible for. Same goes for government. Why would you think the Public Version of news and the Official Version of real life had anything to do with each other?

Elvis also once said on stage that he's never been strung out...except on the music... so maybe Elvis isn't the most credible source cuz we all know Elvis spent the last half decade or so of his life all kinds of jacked up on drugs

@Rizzle420 yeah - i thought people would understand i was posting that as satire. sorry to confuse.

@SusanInFlorida I know but I rarely have an opportunity to mention that little tidbit of Elvis trivia lol

@markansas when i see an actual space alien, i'll surrender to him.

Bigfoot, the loch ness monster, and the honest politician, too.

See, this is why I yawn when most conspiracy theorists start talking. The government is not competent enough at covering this stuff up, and they get painfully obvious when they try.

@LordShadowfire I'm flattered that you're going back and revisiting my old posts, from months ago. I think you'll discover that I'm not promoting either a left or right wing agenda.

I'm long time fan of "UFO theories" (most of which seem to be hilariously wrong), and whenever an "aerial phenomena" grabs the media's attention, it grabs mine as well.

You'll also find that I'm likely to be triggered by:

1. Government bailouts
2. Invasive species (especially burmese pythons - i was once bitten by one)
3. narcotics policy
4. HBO series
5. Military strategy
6. ethnography/cultural anthropology
7. Big bang/dark matter/dark energy theories
8. Ocean habitat/fishing policies

but not so much professional sports, toy trains, muscle cars, gambling, computer gaming . . .
