Where do Conservatives get the impression that socialism means not having money or the government paying people not to work?

because that's what every socialist country is
Thomas52 · 70-79, M
@DeluxedEdition Like the Scandinavian countries you mean?
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@Thomas52 like China or Venezuela ?
Thomas52 · 70-79, M
@DeluxedEdition Neither of those are Scandinavian. However, they are examples of extremes which countries would not wish to emulate
Guitarman123 · 31-35, M
@DeluxedEdition that dosent answer my question
Guitarman123 · 31-35, M
@DeluxedEdition every country has workers
OggggO · 36-40, M
@DeluxedEdition China is the world's second largest economy and has the highest Purchasing Power Parity. It's a repressive totalitarian state, but saying it has "no money" is just laughably nonsensical.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@OggggO rich off of the exploitation of slave labor and paying people 3 dollars a day
revenant · F
@OggggO lots of multimillionnaires in China but majority is not rich at all
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Thomas52 Scandinavia is not socialism
OggggO · 36-40, M
@DeluxedEdition So you agree they aren't socialist, then?
Elessar · 26-30, M
@DeluxedEdition Ever heard of Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland?

Most if not all of those have far better living standards and wealth distribution than both our countries.
revenant · F
@Elessar it is mixed. Got to find out how they built their wealth first. Norway is oil. Sweden is steel I think
Elessar · 26-30, M
@revenant Good, then why y'all whine about "socialism bad" if I propose to implement such a mixed system elsewhere?
revenant · F
@Elessar hmm...countries are different with different histories and the cultures are different too.-
Elessar · 26-30, M
@revenant And so? That sounds like a very poor excuse - with no rationale whatsover - not to catch up with an economic model that is demonstrably vastly superior to that of the capitalist south.
revenant · F
@Elessar I think it is valid considering. People have different values. What do you call capitalist south ?
Elessar · 26-30, M
@revenant Again, individual "values" are completely irrelevant nor anything I'd give a sh_t about, frankly. We're discussing economy, not morality.

Simple. literally the rest of the west world that hasn't implemented the nordic "socialist" model. USA too.
revenant · F
@Elessar If we are discussing economy a socialist country is not going to build wealth
revenant · F
@Elessar perhaps because people are less into "groupthink" mentality
Elessar · 26-30, M
@revenant And again, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland prove your point completely wrong.

Is it mixed? Good. Give me a mixed socialist system like theirs.
revenant · F
@Elessar you can only build some kind of socialism onto an already wealthy country.

What made them rich in the first place ?
Elessar · 26-30, M
@revenant The USA seems pretty rich already, #1 world economy; what are we waiting for?
revenant · F
@Elessar You know I am not american. America was built by settlers and the mentality of ' may the best win" amid fierce competition. They had to get rid of the UK overlords too.
This produces a different kind of mentality
Elessar · 26-30, M
@revenant Did I ask for more excuses? You've said the condition was that a country should be rich first, I gave you a country that is, and you're now trying to climb on more mirrors to deny the evidence.

Sorry, socialist north countries function (much) better than others, USA included, from the perspective of the citizen and not that of the elite.
revenant · F
@Elessar which country is that then ?

What you call excuses I call relevant factors
