UK's MATT HANCOCK

...and you thought he was just another harmless celebrity!

No - look who he rubs shoulders with! And what he and this traitorous government are planning for the population!

There is nothing new in all that throwing around of words like "digitizing" [sic - complete with the American letter 'z']. There is there anything concrete in it, no new ideas or anything, just a blizzard of high-flown jargon.

Note that Hancock alludes to he not fully understanding it all! He seems surprised that anything IT-related is digital almost by definition, and I wonder if he even knows what "exponential" means.

All he's done really is say what we've known for a long time, that governmental departments and public services, as with the banks etc. are using the Internet far more; for their own administrative convenience.

My 'phone is 3G rated. I don't really know what number-G means in detail, but I've seen nothing to convince me it is anything more than a relative level of service. Presumably it simply allows the likes of Meta, Google and Amazon to clutter your 'phone with even more of their meretricious piffle, to make it harder to find anything useful to you. (I won't touch Meta / Facebook and Amazon with a barge-mouse.)

And that speech is not even new news. It was five years ago!

I wouldn't lose much sleep over it.

What do matter are ethics and security, and those are vital, serious aspects; but what does worry me as well at a practical level is that in future, unless you live your life hanging off a PC or so-called "smart"-'phone you will receive only a second-class service at best.

@ArishMell No need for a statement that reveals the intentions of a then-powerful politician to be fresh off the press! He said it in 2017. It's what he believes and wants to see happening

@WalterF I take your point but I have the impression he's in awe of things he doesn't really understand.

He doesn't say really what he wants, other than what is happening anyway (continuing development of telephony and what I see as increasing over-reliance on the Internet).
Sounds impressive...much like the blow hards in the IT world who speak in platitudes while injecting terminology that makes it sound so grand. The needle on my 🐂💩 meter has hit the max.
