Just when Russia is running short of weapons in the Ukraine we trade one of the biggest arms trader on the planet for a ball player. Anybody see a problem?

@redredred So, every country that makes war weapons has the ability to restrict the weapon manufacturers but none do. Maybe it's because the agencies get kickbacks and depend on arms dealers for the money to support their lavish lifestyles.

@Diotrephes nope, couldn’t find the relevant point in that comment.

@redredred Where do you think such arms dealers get their weapons from, the dollar store? They buy them from the manufacturers, load them on planes, ships, trains, trucks, and ship them to the war zones. There are countless points where the arms shipments could be intercepted but, with all of the government spy agencies in the world, not one of them can see what is going on. That indicates system-wide corruption.

I get your point but this isn't entirely true, the USA has restricted selling weapons in the past and continues to do so on a regular basis, we don't sell our best weapons to others, most are scaled down and older versions of what we currently have. The thing about that is that it has pushed some of the lesser Nations right into the arms of the Russian and Chinese weapons manufacturers, damned if you do, damned if you don't... 🥴

@spjennifer If it was a real problem the US would simply kill the arms dealers.

@Diotrephes Of course. I mean the guy looked terrified after he was released. I'm positive he won't be doing any dealings again. 🙂

Okay, they’re both guilty. Why the one and not the other? Russia is desperate for weapons and the arms trader likely still has lots of contacts so essentially Joe Stupid gave the Russians a weapons supplier and we got a basketball player.
I only spent thirty-five years negotiating contracts for Fortune 100 companies so perhaps I don’t understand but given Russia’s desperation a competent negotiator could have gotten them both for a “prize” like the arms dealer. Joe Stupid likely couldn’t entertain the complexity of two-for-one.@Zonuss
