Trump Organization found guilty on multiple counts of criminal tax fraud

A Manhattan jury has found two Trump Organization companies guilty on multiple charges of criminal tax fraud and falsifying business records connected to a 15-year scheme to defraud tax authorities by failing to report and pay taxes on compensation for top executives.

The Trump Corp. and Trump Payroll Corp. were found guilty on all charges they faced.

I hope they protect those jurors.

Its still just a civil case.

@Vin53 This is a criminal case against the Trump Organisation and it has legal ramifications for the companies ability to borrow as well as implications for the directors. This is not the case that has been getting all the publicity. This is about the CFOs fringe benefits..And The charge is Tax Evasion..😷

"Prosecutors built the case largely around longtime Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg, who pleaded guilty in August to 15 counts including tax fraud, conspiracy and grand larceny. He was promised a steeply reduced sentence of five months in jail in exchange for testifying against the company. He had faced up to 15 years in prison."

@Vin53 He is serving 100 days in Rykers. (sp?) So he gave up something...😷
@Vin53 I'm not really sure what "civil" even means when it comes to Trumpism, legal distinctions aside.

To be sure, intimidating or taking revenge on jurors is probably not mainstream amongst Trump supporters, but if they're corrupt, why shouldnt all rules cease to apply?

@MistyCee Why? The Clintons aren't on trial.

Because its only a monetary punishment. Trump is a self described "billionaire"

@MistyCee Civil law is a case between people seeking equity. (I know thats confusing. But legally the State of New York and Trump Corp are "people" and the claim is that Trump corp owes the city because it did the wrong thing and owe New York.)
There are no criminal penalties such as Jail time. But while criminal cases need proof beyond reasonable doubt, a civil case has only to be proved on the balance of probabilities. So if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, its a duck. We dont need to wait for the DNA..
So to summarize. If I assault you in front of a cop. I get charged with assault and thats a crime, I do time. If in the assault I broke your dental work, you sue me for the cost of the repairs, plus pain and suffering. Thats civil law. No extra jail time. Just money.😷 (Pardon the mansplain. I just wanted to cover all the ground)
@whowasthatmaskedman You over covered, imo, and didn't even get to the rather absurd idea of criminal charges against a corp or llc, which can't do jail time and was pretty much invented to let folks avoid civil law remedies against tortfeasors.

All that legal stuff aside, I still think that Trump and Trumpism are inherently uncivil, because the essence of the movement is dishonesty.

Now, obviously, dishonesty can be criminal, but not always.

@MistyCee We agree.. But how about the supporters? Isnt supporting acts like theirs a dereliction of citizenship in some form?😷
@whowasthatmaskedman I'd say its certainly a dereliction of civic duty and other things for sure.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MistyCee Agreed. But so many seem to feel they have rights and freedoms. But no duties or responsibilities😷
@whowasthatmaskedman Hence my focus on civility.

I really don't think that Trumpists get the whole social contract thing and just want the benefits without the restrictions that go with them.

But maybe I'm overthinking things.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MistyCee I am not sure most Republicans overall get the social contract, except for the parts where they benefit from it..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman I hear you. It's really sad, but I don't see the Republican party bring able to attract anything but sociopaths for awhile.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MistyCee And what does that say about those who continue to vote for them.?
Particularly the Trump fan members..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman I think I've said all I care to about Trumpists tonight.
