Trump Vows to Plant U.S. Flag on Mars.

It shouldn't be that hard, right? After all, remember as President when he Tweeted that NASA "should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part)."

Hey, who knows. Maybe there's oil on Mars. Drill, baby, drill!

My mom told me Dan Quayle got tripped up on the whole astronomy thing with Mars, too. I looked it up and, sure enough, found this quote:

Mars is essentially in the same orbit. Mars is somewhat the same distance from the sun, which is very important. We have seen pictures where there are canals, we believe, and water. If there is water, that means there is oxygen. If oxygen, that means we can breathe.
- Vice President Dan Quayle

Yeah, I think Quayle learned his "science" from 1930s Buck Rogers movies. By the mid 1960s Mariner spacecraft had sent back "closeup" images of the Martian surface, putting the last nail in the coffin of "canals" on Mars. But 25 years later, Quayle still hadn't gotten the memo!
