Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, attacked at home

Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was attacked at the couple’s home in San Francisco early Friday morning, the Democratic speaker’s office said in a statement. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi, said the assailant is in custody and a motive is being investigated. The speaker was not in San Francisco at the time.

Maybe he should have stayed in jail - it's safer there.

The man who attacked Nancy Pelosi's husband with a hammer early Friday morning is a former nudist from British Columbia who posted crazed right-wing conspiracy theories online.

Police said they arrested David DePape, 42, after he broke into the Pelosis' San Francisco home and beat Paul Pelosi with a hammer. He was looking for the speaker herself.

DePape grew up north of the border but moved from British Columbia to California 20 years ago. He followed a love interest, his stepfather told CNN.

He ended up in the Berkley area, a liberal concave of the city, where he lived in a three-bedroom Victorian flat with famed nudist activist Gypsy Taub. Taub and her fiance Jaymz Smith tapped DePape to be their best man.
