A (non-white) Labour MP got fired for making this argument. I'm not really comfortable with this argument tbh. It would be even worse for a soy-boy like me to use it, with respect to other soyboys. I don't know of your ethnicity.

I think you can talk about the politics of race and its impact of it better. There is definitely a privilege to being white and whiteness is political. I understand (for example) the argument that Irish people in the UK have 'become white' and that there is definitely a racial hierarchy. You also get the likes of Prital Patel (herself of SE Asian descent) who relishes sending immigrants to Somalia and you know full well that her most strident supporters are not of her ethnicity.

I don't think you can remove someone's racial identity in a political critique though. You can say that he is on the side of the establishment/ruling class (definitely true) or that his political views reinforce racial hierarchies (arguably true) but I don't think you can say he's 'basically white.'

Our families...No-one drove a Taxi or even worked in a shop, they are all successful on their chosen professional careers.... and they are not basically white.

@BabyLonia wow so sensitive. It was an obviously ironic stereotype but the example is legitimate. If it's considered a good thing that someone of an ethnic minority is in a position such as PM, I don't disagree, but they should be there because they represent and embody the typical values of the culture they represent. Otherwise, just saying it's good, based solely on their skin colour is incredibly ignorant and racist in itself. This is what annoyed me about people voting for Obama just because he was 'black', he was about as representative of the majority of black people who voted for him as Carlton Banks!

Try and walk into any nhs hospital and find one without an asian doctor be it 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation

@BabyLonia Fuck sake, my friend of 20 years is Asian, doesn't mean I have to automatically believe that another guy getting a powerful position is good, just because he is Asian. The person's race etc shouldn't be an issue, it shouldn't be a reason to discredit them or attack them but not should it be a reason to applaud them.

You can say that the left represent their interests more or that certain views are more typical but the argument you made is frankly just ignorant. People make mistakes but the issue is that you have been told what you did wrong (including by a person of SE Asian descent) and you doubled down on it. I'm embarrassed for you.
