When I first started getting into politics, my brother who was 20 years older than me, read two newspapers, and I questioned why. The city we lived in had a paper called the Star and a paper called the Exponent. He had me read an article from the Star, and then an article on the same subject from the Exponent. One was a liberal slant and the other was the conservative slant of the same issue. He told me, "No matter where you get your news from, they are lying to you, you have to read and think about both sides of any argument." This was around 1973 or 1974. In my opinion the truthfulness of media outlets has diminished since I asked that question so many years ago.

@plungesponge Thank you.

@Roadsterrider The idea of the media baron is long and storied. If a rich man couldn't make it in politics he could always buy a newspaper and be a pain in butt to the political party he did not support. Nothing has really changed. Sadly many media outlets are owned by the state and as such are simply propaganda outlets for the state. Here in Canada we have 3 major outlets all supported by the government. It is impossible to get an honest opinion from any of them.

@Roadsterrider Yes that's why I read many news sources and always did. We have to be intelligent! FOX News is not even news its advertisement and entertainment!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa You don't read anything that disagrees with your fascist outlook on life Kind of sad.
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 I don't read or follow any gossip, lies, or hate! I watched Fox news for 2 minutes and they are gossiping and hateful. I love Obama because he is so positive and unified the country except racist biggets, and I love all the news except FOX because they gossip and are negative, and racist! The reason Trump was elected was because of all the KKK racists in America hated Obama!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa You have been doing nothing but peddling gossip about Trump. You can't even post a quote of Trump that would indicate he is anything you accuse him of being. You are not following the Jesus of the Bible.
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 Trump is a racist murderer!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa Judge not lest you be judged. Provide some evidence or be shamed forever.
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955
Jesus is my evidence! He is loving, humble and truthful!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa I am asking for evidence of what you accuse Trump of being. Calling someone that without evidence is not Christian nor are you following Jesus of Biblical fame.
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 In Daniel 8 God warns of a antichrist who deceives with his lies, is proud, and violent.

@Carazaa And you have believed the lies of the antiChrist. No Christian can support the killing of innocent babies. No Christian can worship the state as you do. You have the spirit of this world not the Holy Spirit. You have very fascist tendencies including telling lies about politicians you don't like. Time for you to Repent.
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 I just did my morning devotion, I worship Jesus, I follow Jesus, and believe in peace. Have a nice day!
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@Carazaa In the beginning the antichrist will be revered, a talented person, a person ready to take on the problems of the world without religion interfering. His message will be hedonistic, there is no moral code to live by, many will be deceived, even true believers. All the hate displayed towards Trump by democrats and republicans and foreign interests kind of rules him out as the antichrist in my opinion.
Carazaa · F
@Roadsterrider I think it fits!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Roadsterrider It takes a special kind of stupid to not realize the fault is with the left and the lies they perpetuate. Just for example the state is a god worthy or worship. Abortion is good thing and even a right for women. Jesus is Love therefore I can justify any evil I want. Jesus was a socialist. etc etc etc. The unhinged left is a major conduit of evil into this world.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 Well Joe, I think liberalism is the wrong direction, I think the far left is evil, I think the far right is just as bad, the great majority of people in this country are moderates. They don't agree with the far left or far right. I know some highly intelligent people who are liberals, unless they are complete far left, they can still be reached by logic. I don't think brow beating non-believers is going to change anyone's opinion of Christianity. When did Jesus get angry, when he was talking to the apostles, he told them that if they weren't accepted in a city, to leave and to kick the dust from their shoes as they left, take nothing from them. The parables cause us to think, when logic is brought to the mind, possibilities open up. To me, someone letting me know they are a person of faith by telling me I am going to hell and jumping down my throat with it, really doesn't work. The right is as politically correct as the left, just in a different direction. There are conservative politicians who are afraid to say that abortions could be medically necessary in some cases, 50,000 women a year die from eclampsia. If my wife was going to die because of a pregnancy, I would rather her have an abortion that to lose her and a baby. I am a firearms enthusiast, I don't think crazy people should be allowed to buy firearms, but conservative politicians have to walk on eggshells when talking about anything related to the 2nd amendment for fear of their words being used to label them a "Rino". Being a Christian isn't something a person can be badgered into, it isn't something to be forced on people. Christ has to be accepted into a person's heart, not shoved down with a sharp stick.

I don't think I have learned much from the "angry Christians" in my life except how not to attract a non-believer to the faith.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Roadsterrider And you are as deluded as they come. The fact is that the 'progressives' are the ones who have moved the moderates to the extreme left. The extreme right doesn't exist at the moment.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 I think you are the one who is deluded, the extreme left may be controlling the rhetoric for the democrat party, that is why many moderates are leaving the party. People like Tulsi Gabbard are realizing that there isn't a place for a moderate democrat in the party at the moment, blacks who normally vote democrat 95-98% of the time has fallen about 25% in the last year or two, those people who can't take what the party has become are switching to independent or republican/libertarian positions. In a society where the law of the land is not determined by religion, It is the moderates who eventually control the process. The problem is that those moderates who make up about 80% of the voters don't usually get too spooled up until things go too far like they are now. Most of this country doesn't want unlimited access to abortions, almost no one sees a need for partial birth abortions, medical necessity is one thing, an unwanted pregnancy is maybe a reason, as the baby is coming out of the birth canal, most think that is murder. The extreme right is still with up, the Proud Boys, the Aryan Brotherhood, the Klan, and they are every bit as repugnant as the talking heads from Planned Parenthood.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Roadsterrider There is no left or right. There is totalitarianism and freedom. Progressives and liberals/socialist et al are totalitarian in nature. They want to control everyone's life ie tell them what vehicle they can drive or what will be taught in school or even what medication you have to take. They certainly oppose private property and especially the ownership of any kind of arms since such arms might be used to remove them from power. The freedom side has an extreme such is anarchy and libertarianism but most would be happy living their lives with their loved ones pursuing their own happiness. Yes there is a need for a very limited state but not too powerful or omnipresent state. You want to smoke a cigar then you can smoke a cigar. If you want to abstain from smoking a cigar then you can abstain. The old left/right dynamic breaks down immediately when examined in the clear light of day. The proud boys and the like are not extreme nor do they pose any threat to anyone who wants to live their lives in peace.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 Right and left, whigs and torries, democrats and republicans, you can name them whatever you want, that doesn't change the fact that unlimited power by either will lead to destruction.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Roadsterrider And the fact is that the totalitarians in our midst need to be removed from power permanently and no I am not talking about the elected clowns. I am talking about the permanent government who suffer delusions of grandeur.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 I can agree with that, give them all the bum's rush and start over. Including the elected clowns, anyone who has served two terms should be removed.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Roadsterrider You can tell when a politician has been controlled by the unelected officials. They start to use the word 'WE" in place of the word "I".
