If the UK had had Fox News for the past 25 yrs , would British people be just as stupid ?

You may or may not know this because you live in France now but we now have a channel called GB News that models itself on Fox. It's had a lot of problems and low ratings but it might take off yet.

I think its struggling because the media class exaggerate the cultural conservatism of the UK and also that our print media being so rightwing fills that market anyway.

@Burnley123 I had heard of it. Wasn't Andrew Neil the main anchor , and didn't he bail after just a few weeks ?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@RodionRomanovitch He did. Last I heard, its ratings are poor but its a Farage fanboy channel.

@Burnley123 Was Murdoch legally restricted from doing a "Fox" in the UK?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Northwest There are stricter impartiality rules for broadcast media than print. I also think that Sky News had a marketing strategy of wanting credibility (to compete with BBC news) so took a more nuanced line. Premiership football always has been the biggest selling point for SKY and is by far and away the company's biggest cash cow here. They lose money on the news channel.

There are leftist political commentators here who say that the BBC is more conservative-leaning than Sky because the former is worried about losing the licence fee so mistakes only happen in one direction.

@Northwest Murdoch's News Corporation had it's wings clipped after the phone hacking scandal in the UK. The organisation was broken up and its planned takeover of BSkyB (where any Fox Type news show would have found a home) was scuppered by the government.

@RodionRomanovitch Thatcher was on board, when he broke up the unions, so he could help finance his media operations in the US.

@Northwest We're talking about two different periods.
