Trump Sues CNN For $475M

He's saying the network had defamed him in an effort to short-circuit any future political campaign.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, focuses primarily on the term “The Big Lie” about Trump’s false claims of widespread fraud that he says cost him the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden.
So he says CNN calling his false claims of fraud “the big lie” after the election is why he lost? He thinks CNN has a time machine? No one called it that before the election.

That would be like me saying the reason Betty Smith didn’t date me in high school 45 years ago is because someone made a nasty post about me on Facebook last week.

And they say Biden is senile.

That means trump will be subject to discovery and deposition. That would be fun but trump is a horrible client. Any attorney foolish enough to accept him as a client has learned to be paid upfront. What makes him a bad client? He won't shut up. By the time trump's check clears he is fired as a client. His diarrhea mouth is never helpful except for extracting money from his goons.
@Crazywaterspring This one, though has almost no chance of getting past the motion to dismiss stage and into discovery, even if he pulls another sympathetic district court judge.

There's practically no allegations of false factual statements even made in the Complaint. It reads like it was designed as a hail Mary or even a Big Ben to Thomas to gut the First Amendment, without even a receiver running a sideline pattern to stop the clock.

Maybe Trump thinks it's half time?
TrashCat · M
Here we go again. Trump filed this in Florida try to swing it in his direction. He needs money to pay for his mountain of legal fees so he'll be asking his goon squad to donate their social security checks soon for this. I hope CNN countersues that clown.
@TrashCat I think you're exactly correct about Trump's CNN suit being nothing but a fund raising mechanism. And the more money Trump sucks out of con suckers' wallets, the less money there is for down ballot con candidates. It's a win-win situation for democrats!!
So he’s finally accepting that he has lost the election? 😆
Nobody knows more about "Defamation" than the 'stable genius' does. 🙄
@softspokenman Ya know, that raises a good point.

In the history of our country, I'm guessing Trump has probably publicly threatened more frivolous litigation although I'm not sure he's actually filed that many or how many of his abuses of the legal system are counterclaims.

Appointing his "own" judges has certainly opened things up for that, but someone should probably do some research before he submits to Guinness and gets those bragging rights.

@MistyCee $s to 🥯s, he holds the world's record.
@Northwest Mebbe. The thing is, he's filed an awful lot of bankruptcy proceedings, which practically eliminate the strategic advantage of actually filing individual frivolous legal proceedings.
Here's a link to the complaint.

https://www.courthousenews.com/trump-v-cnn/

It's being widely touted as legal garbage, although it actually reads like fodder for ripping up not just the Sullivan standard, but pretty much all of defamation law if he can find the "right" judge(s) willing to destroy the free press for him.

On the other hand, the graphics and formatting are pretty cool looking.
Northwest · M
@MistyCee It is legal garbage. This, like all his other suits, will be dismissed, but it will be used in the email the MAGA crowd is receiving now, asking for donations.
@Northwest Yeah, good point. I keep forgetting how much of Trump's stuff is about fundraising/money laundering as opposed to more outright political or legal manuvering.

In that vein, I think this complaint is actually pretty impressive. As Trump burns through ethical lawyers and human beings, he actually does seem to be building a new purer set of minions devoted to not just Trump, but also, Trumpism, and the promotion of image over substance or principle.

I really hope Trusty and Halligan get held accountable for this, but its likely as foolish a hope as the one I had that Trump wouldn't have won in 2016.

It'll be fun to watch the mashup clips of Trump slamming CNN for years. Fake News = CNN, right?
I have to imagine that any one of his cult members who still has a foot in reality sees this horseshit for what it is. What I know is Maggie Haberman's book goes on sale today. The timing isn't a coincidence.

I have to imagine that any one of his cult members who still has a foot in reality

That's a tall order.
Ynotisay · M
@Northwest Seems that way, huh?
plungesponge · 41-45, M
I feel like this is all for show, he should have sued them for 420 million just to create more buzz lol
Ynotisay · M
@plungesponge Ha. When they go low - Trump goes high.

@ManKing I like how you like your own comments. Reminds me of someone else here.

Not unlike the fraud it perpetrated on the American voters regarding Hunter Biden and denial of the smoking gun laptop.

Hunter Biden ran for office, and information on the laptop would have stopped him from winning. Got it. Wait, this did not happen.

The laptop was in DOJ hands for nearly a year, and other than some porn, they found nothing on it. Legitimate or not, there is no smoking gun.
@Northwest I missed how Hunter ran for office

No offense, but this seems like stuff I want to talk about in the huddle, or even after in the locker room with Coach Soros.

This will go far.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Graylight as far as a scheduled deposition.
@Carla It'll get dismissed before then. As much as CNN might be tempted, every News org will put the pressure on this one.

He rested the thing on Hitler and the big Lie, and if they let that pass for facts, they're all out of business.

I'm actually wondering what a Fox Amicus brief looks like, not that it would come to that.

My guess is, Trump is really panicked to file this one, and I hope, for the sake of their families, the lawyers who signed off on this are getting paid up front in advance.
Thodsis · 51-55, M
So that's about ten times what he thinks the lawsuit is worth to him.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Da Nile isn’t just a river in Egypt. Lol
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Well, hell. If that's the case, I'm going to go ahead and file a lawsuit against the guy last week who called me baldy, because clearly he's the reason I lost all my hair in the mid 2000s.
