So... They Banned You...

A lot of people are whining about being de-platformed on social media giants like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and so on. I was cancelled on Reddit myself but at the end of the day, these are private businesses, not publicly funded entities. Rather than lodge complaints with the businesses which have banned me, I simply ceased giving them my business and gave it to other companies instead. It's a simple solution and if more people applied it, these giants would go out of business.

That's right, there's no public, government funded platform to compete with private property.

@Roundandroundwego Nor should there be.
@Jaenanders no, without government involvement in public media, there's no free press and no democracy.

@Roundandroundwego @Roundandroundwego I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying here. Yes, you need a state to guarantee free press in a democracy. However, YouTube is a private entity and not a newspaper or news broadcast on cable. YouTube is specifically, a video hosting company which may choose what it allows on its platform, especially when that content threatens its ad-generated revenue.
@Jaenanders in the place of a public square, we have YouTube. It's already law that it should be acting differently. You don't actually have government.

@Roundandroundwego YouTube is now classified as the public square? What about Reddit? Twitter? Facebook? TikTok?
@Jaenanders it fits the description of a defacto public utility. This stuff is old.

@Roundandroundwego It should go non profit then, shouldn't it?
@Jaenanders it should be regulated by the FCC. Or not. Murka not function. Murka kill....duhh...
Jaenanders · 36-40, F
@Roundandroundwego Does YouTube fall under the description of a news broadcasting institution and if so, does this mean the state now gets control over what is broadcasted there?
@Jaenanders so you have your own definition of what the FCC regulates, or can regulate. Nobody can argue with that. Whatever. Murka not thinking. Murka dark and dangerous, not regulate!

@Roundandroundwego Is that why TikTok has turned into a hotbed of what basically amounts to child prostitution?
@Jaenanders who cares?
Jaenanders · 36-40, F
@Roundandroundwego Parents? People who care about children in their countries?
@Jaenanders the culture suffering total system failure exhibits great risks for children. Parents can't pick tiny things to care about and miss the big picture unless they're Murkan conservatives.

@Roundandroundwego Dare I ask which nation you're a citizen of?
@Jaenanders you're an American. Obviously yours.
Jaenanders · 36-40, F
@Roundandroundwego You're obviously not conservative, so what are you?
