So... They Banned You...

A lot of people are whining about being de-platformed on social media giants like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and so on. I was cancelled on Reddit myself but at the end of the day, these are private businesses, not publicly funded entities. Rather than lodge complaints with the businesses which have banned me, I simply ceased giving them my business and gave it to other companies instead. It's a simple solution and if more people applied it, these giants would go out of business.
That's right, there's no public, government funded platform to compete with private property.

@Roundandroundwego Dare I ask which nation you're a citizen of?
@Jaenanders you're an American. Obviously yours.

@Roundandroundwego You're obviously not conservative, so what are you?

@SW-User the instincts born into it.
It's easy if your job is not dependent on those site.

There are a lot of people whose businesses depends on those platforms.

@NotSureAboutMyUserName Then you best be weighing the loss of that platform against the importance of what you want to say on that platform?
Dan193 · 31-35, M
Yeah get everyone out of business. Fuck up the economy even more, burn the world! 🔥👿🔥
Jaenanders · 36-40, F
@Dan193 No, just choose which companies you give your business to, based on your rational self interest.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Jaenanders what business bro? you just log on for a couple of hours. Only way to actually wreck them is for the public to cancel them. A couple of thousands that dont like it and stop using it, wont get them out of business.
Jaenanders · 36-40, F
@Dan193 I don't focus on cancelling them, I just give my business to other companies, doing the same thing they are. I think we call those other companies as competition?
MarineBob · 56-60, M
You don't think these companies receive public funds?
Jaenanders · 36-40, F
@MarineBob YouTube isn't a state owned entity, it's a private corporation.
@MarineBob I have no doubt that various branches of the federal gov't contract with Amazon Web Services to host databases, applications, etc. They probably do some similar business with Microsoft & Google. But I can't see how the gov't would have business with FaceBook or Twitter or Reddit.

@ElwoodBlues I can think of why a corrupt government might stick its claws into things like Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, etc.
Confined · 56-60, M
I dumped fakebook on 2020. I dont bother with the rest of them.
Jaenanders · 36-40, F
@Confined So far, I dumped Facebook and as for Reddit, I'm banned so let's call it a dump.
Okay... I've seen all I need to see of you.
ravenhill · M
but they haven't banned me.
