Brits: The Scottish procession.

The queen's coffin is being flown from Edinburgh to London - about a one hour journey out of the public eye.

In contrast Scots over a huge swath of their country have been given a procession by road, with the opportunity to show massive public respect for the late monarch - all televised throughout Britain (as well as internationally).

Do you think these decisions were politically influenced ?

They definitely should have travelled along the M6 and stopped in one of the services so that random people could gaup and point.

What political motivation could there have been?

@TheConstantGardener One short day, cleared through at speed: Two full days at a 'leisurely' pace with a stopover. I haven't paid attention to how many hours/days she was on Scottish roads. Seemed like a long time though 😊.

A monarch for an independent modern Scotland? Interesting thought but I believe it would be unlikely. Fora start they'd have to authenticate 'the wee magic stane' before lugging it back to Scone. (Americans: pronounced Skoon; and the capital's not called Embra.)

@Really 6 hours to travel 158 miles from Balmoral to Edinburgh via Dundee. 650 miles from Edinburgh to London. They'd have needed a packed lunch.

@TheConstantGardenerYou're confusing miles and kilometers. I've bicycled from Inverness to Glasgow in less than 24 hours, including two roadside naps and a stop for Dundee fish & chips. It's about 180 miles and involves a long weary drag (40 miles?) up the pass of Drumochter.

I haven't checked the road distance Edinburgh to Balmoral but I think it would be quite a bit less. If you Google it you can get answers between 173 miles and 124 km!

I've also driven London-Glasgow in what I remember was about 8 hours with one stop for coffee and a snack. It's in the order of 400 miles. I usually think of the Whole British mainland as as about 800 miles long

Sorry this is so long winded and strays from topic. Blame it on nostalgia for my lost youth!.

Particularly since the flag draping the casket in Scotland was the Scottish Royal Standard, which will be switched for the UK Royal Standard when she arrives in London? Ironic, that the Scottish Royal Standard used was specially made for the occasion in -- wait for it -- England.

@dancingtongue You're right. I don't have a clue about that but I can 'research' (Google) it. Been doing that since Google was just 'Déja News.' Long before that I'd have taken a bus to "The Mitchell" (library :) )

@dancingtongue OK I've checked and here is the monarch's one, trying to cover all the bases. But all the monarchlets have their own Canadian Standards. I ran out of interest; but note the naked 'E' - not 'ER II' :) ...

@Really According to Google it has both red maple leaves and fleur de lis in addition to the English & Scottish lions and the Irish harp.

No just happened to be where she died, if she had passed in bucks palace it would of all been in London. The Scot’s have done her proud.
Really · 80-89, M
@Barny52 Yorkshire - That's practically Scottish eh? Maybe 350 miles closer to Edinburgh than London. I seem to remember some Yorkshire folk saying if Scotland separated they'd like to join it 😆.

@Really yes I’ve been voting Yorkshire Independence Party we have a bigger population than Scotland, no not join with Scotland but independent, but realistically it wouldn’t be a good idea , I’ve mostly used my vote as a protest against the main parties !
