On the one hand we're told that energy companies have made billions from the present crisis. On the other that the government will have to borrow

billions to compensate them for cutting their prices. I don't understand. Aspiration has become the "in" word. Should it not be exploitation?

In the UK the prices energy companies pay for gas has fallen by 46% in the last 13 days. Our bills are set to rise by 80% in 3 weeks time. That's economic terrorism.

@Entwistle Agree. It's even worse in the U.K. part of it with the DUP huffing and blocking any local administration. They claim it's because of the EU Protecol ; nothing to do with their arch-enemies recently getting the largest vote and thereby being entitled t nominate the First Minister.
@Entwistle Theft and embezzlement
Only energy companies that are extracting oil and gas are doing well - the ones buying it not so much.

@CheekyBadger I was wondering about that.

It is exploitation and poor management. Printing trillions did not help the matter at all.

Liz Truss did work for Shell for a few years, just coincidence I'm sure.

Major and minor corporations everywhere are taking full advantage of the difficult economic times. If something is in short supply, you can generally get people to pay more for it. If you're still paying for plane tickets for a vacation despite prices being considerably higher than normal? That’s a good example of demand-pull inflation.

The U.S. is experiencing demand-pull inflation due to wages rising and Americans having a decent amount of money in their savings accounts, although some consumers are starting to empty those accounts. Consumer spending has remained high despite rising prices. This is commonly referred to as demand-pull inflation, as consumer demand pulls prices higher because firms cannot keep up.

They are acting as a cartel by exploiting the cap to make excess profits. The monopoly commission should be fining them a multiple of these sums and charging the directors with criminal behaviour or simply sanctioning them.

Corporation tax is a percentage, if profits are up the government’s take is up

We do live in very strange times.

It seems so simple to bring these greedy tyrants to book but the government won't do it, maybe I don't understand the situation but OFGEM are specifically tasked with this and they once again are failing badly.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@GeniUs Our new PM Liz Truss used to work for Shell.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@Entwistle maybe I'm being naive but I wouldn't expect this to have an impact, whether she still knows people there and is intending to get a job there once her time as PM is up would be a different matter and should be prevented by law.

That's what you get with a Tory government
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@alan20 I find it hysterical how you guys consider the Tories right wing. To someone from the US, they are left wing ;)
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
@ShadowWolf It's more fiscal and to do with class here as opposed to totally bat shit in the US lol
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@Ryannnnnn Our left-wing is your right wing, and our right wing is your... I don't believe you have an equivalent. I would say it's fiscal here as well, and social (which could be considered class). But different dynamics.
